I have no idea what NMS means...
  • "not my style"
  • lol gotcha. I actually heard the name on a TV show like two years ago and have been in love since.  I love how unique it is, but still think it sounds so pretty. Of course, to each their own! And my fiance loves Addison, but like you said, it was SO popular the last few years, I wouldn't want it for a first name.
Our first sons name is Brayden, and he has several other kids in his daycare with the same name...
  • I personally don't understand how it's pretty. The first part is "Ken" which is a nice masculine name. The second part is "ley" which is very trendy.
  • I prefer Kinsley or even just Kinley
    I actually really like Kinsley!
  • I am due next month and my baby girl is Kinsey :)

I'm not trying to sway your opinion, but this is just to make you aware of the overall popularity of the name.  I know you're leaning toward spellling it with a Ken-, but that doesn't verbally separate it from Kin-.  I'm not sure how much popularity is an issue for you.

Popularity of the female name Kenley
    Year of birth Rank
    2012 499
    2011 493
    2010 499
    2009 659
    2008 994
Note: Rank 1 is the most popular, rank 2 is the next most popular, and so forth. Data are not shown for some of the years you specified because the name Kenley was not in the top 1000 names for those years. Name data are from Social Security card applications for births that occurred in the United States.

Popularity of the female name Kinley
    Year of birth Rank
    2012 180
    2011 194
    2010 231
    2009 452

    2007 862

  • Name nerds ranks names but all combined spellings, to give a better idea of how popular a name really is. I find Kinley, Kinley, Kinsley and Kensley to all be incredibly similar. Kinley is ranked at 138, Kinsley at 155, Kenley at 351, Kensley at 396. Kinzy type names are also similar in sound and trendiness, plus some people even put Mc- in front of these names. Basically if you want to avoid the same trendiness you found with Brayden, this may not be the right fit.

Yes, this exactly.  It's not exactly unique if it's so trendy.

Ditto this.  I would also add that, based on the small sample size of girls at DD's school, names starting with Ken/Kin/Kyn are really popular right now.

I think if you genuinely want to avoid trendy names, you have to consider names that people have been using for a long time, not just recently.  Kenley doesn't have much history as a first name, and it's basically a combination of two trendy syllables (ken- and -ley are everywhere) that you may think you're using because it sounds unique, but which really penetrated your subconscious because those sounds are all over the place.  Meanwhile, if I suggest a name like Mary, you might be thinking, boooooooring, but it's only #123 for girls' names and will stand out a lot more than Kenley.  Plus when people compliment her name, it will be because they sincerely think it's beautiful and refreshing, when so many girls born now are named Kinley/Kenley/McKinley/Kendall/Kennedy/Tenley/Tinley ad nauseam.
    DD born 10/10/07 * DS born 11/25/11 * #3 due 3/9/2015
  • We have practically opposite naming preferences. You won't get much support on naming boards for trendy names like these...

Kenley Addison looks the most straight forward.

Kenleigh Addyson makes me want to barf. Whatever you do, don't go with that one.

Do you like any of these maybe? Kendra, Kaia, Kira? Adelaide, Allison? I think Kaia Allison would be so much more lovely and fit a little girl better throughout life. But, Kenley could be a lot worse!
  • Kenley Addison
  • Agree with others that Kinley looks better than Kenley.... both are just very trendy made up names like Brayden. Not trying to be mean but if you are looking for something uncommon, Kenley/Kinley is not your name. You should also consider WHY something would be uncommon... mostly because it is not well liked and the general public agrees it is not nearly as nice a name as Olivia or Sophia, etc. If you really look hard there are some gems of a name that are not weird/made up but also not popular.

I know someone with a son named Brayden and a daughter named Riley. These seem to work well together and Riley is much better than Kinley IMO.

The #1 test for me is to type it in and see if it gets underlined in red. So far... practically all of these names are underlined besides Addison. I would prefer Addison as a first over Kinley... Madison would be better too. Although Allison is head and shoulders above both with the same general sound.
  • They're all pretty awful actually. Unless you intend for your daughter to be an eternal toddler, then they're great.
