LO's too little to get it right now, but honestly, I feel kind of weird lying to D1 and telling her there's a man living at the north pole making toys with his elves. I get it, it's childhood tradition, yada yada yada, but part of me would rather just be honest and just try to teach more of the spirit of giving and less that there's some guy in red watching her all the time. Is that ridiculous? What do you think- will you do the Santa thing?
Re: Will you do the whole Santa thing?
Also, I have been to Santa's house in North Pole, AK. His "elves" sell souvenirs. I got to pet the reindeer.

Yes, we do Santa. Dd1 loves it!!!
This is kind of what I'm thinking. My parents didn't make a big deal of it, so when we were kids it was fun to wonder if he was real, but we weren't crushed when we found out. My sister in law told me I better buy an Elf on the Shelf so her boys could see that every house has one. Um, no.

As the youngest child, my siblings told me the truth when I was pretty little (I think I was 6), but I still wanted to believe anyway. And I never resented my parents for being Santa, the tooth fairy, or Easter Bunny.
The elf will not be returning. We only did is for SD because she cried that our neighbor had one and she didn't.
When B is old enough to understand, we'll be moving to an elf free town.
