Another induction question ...

So, if all goes as planned, I go in tonight at midnight to start my induction process. I'm already about 2 cms dilated and at least 80% effaced! and even though my OB said I likely won't need it, they are going to start with the cervical ripening gel stuff prior to the pitocin. I was curious as to what people's experiences are with that gel stuff. Like does it cause contractions with any pain, etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

    I think it's different for everyone. I didn't have contractions til they broke my water which was after the gel. They had started the pitocin by then.
    That's comforting to know. Cause my mom had the gel when she had my sister like 20 years ago, but that was after he water broke by itself, so I figuring that would have a different effect than what I will experience seeing as my water is still intact.

    I went in last Friday and had the gel. It didn't do anything at all. I had 1 real contraction the whole time and it didn't cause me to dilate any more (I was 1 cm going in.) I'm scheduled to get the gel again Wednesday morning if I haven't had lo yet to try and make me more favorable for induction on Thursday.

    I didn't feel anything with the gel for DD1's labor but it did the job.  The pain and contrax started after my water broke and the pitocin was going.

    I had the gel with DS and I don't think it caused any pain. It didn't really work for me though, but no pain at least....

    Why do they do the inductions so late? Mine is thurs at 7pm. Good luck!

    No advice on the gel I'm just surprised tgey are using it. I was 2cm and 50% and the just immediatly started the pit and broke my water. Had LO a quick 6 hours later..
    Be prepared that it might happen fast with them doing that.. Good luck!

    Exactly this. Water breaking was the catalyst that led to those crazy pit contractions. Thank you science for your sweet, sweet drugs.

    I just had the gel put in about an hour ago. No pain besides the discomfort of when they where putting it in. I'll start pitocin in the morning. Hoping for not too much pain. :-)

    I go in for induction in the morning but have no idea how they will start it. I was dilated to a 2 and 75% effaced last Wednesday. My midwife stripped my membranes last Wednesday so I hope I am dilated even more! My sister had the gel and it started her labor but I don't know how common that is. Good luck to you!!

    I am in l&d right now for an induction and didn't have a gel, they put a really tiny pill up by my cervix.. I haven't had any pain yet and that was an hour and a half ago! GL!
