Prolapse from previous delivery - thoughts about management and NB?

I have moderate bladder prolapse from 3 hours of pushing with DD (water broke, had to be induced, didn't get NB like I had hoped), who also had a giant head. Now I'm 17 weeks and things are already getting out of hand. I'm terrified of what will happen not only during the pregnancy as LO gets bigger, but also during birth (hoping for NB this time). Has anyone else dealt with this, and if so, do you have any advice on how to manage it during pregnancy and delivery? My MW said to do Kegels but so far that doesn't seem to be doing anything useful...

Re: Prolapse from previous delivery - thoughts about management and NB?

  • See a physical therapist that specializes in the pelvic floor. Being pregnant itself is more risky to your bladder than having a vaginal delivery. I'm saying this because its not like a C-section would prevent your prolapse from getting worse (I'm assuming you finally delivered after the 3 hour push). The good news is you probably won't have to push that long with baby number 2. You may just need to go see a urogynecologist after your done having babies for a bladder sling or something along those lines.

  • Try to find a physical therapist who specializes in pelvic floor health! They are very knowledgable about how to minimize the problem and to strengthen the pelvic floor. Other things that can be helpful are osteopathy and acupuncture.
I had moderate bladder prolapse after #2 and didn't do anything about it (oops!) until after having #3. FWIW, the pregnancy and delivery of #3 didnt make the prolapse any worse. I did go to physio and osteo after #3 and that was helpful, and now in pregnancy #4 have gone to acupuncture.
A support belt may also be helpful in pregnancy to take some of the pressure off your pelvic floor.
