Re: Friday GTKY

  • I love watching Love Actually. That is such a great holiday movie.

No villains. I didn't think there were any for the holidays besides the grinch. And didn't he turn good? lol. I think, if I dig into the archives, for some reason the ghosts of Christmas in A Christmas Carol would freak me out as a child. Perhaps the word 'ghost' had a lot to do with that lol.

I actually don't have any special tradition I participate in, other than eating. I was hoping this year to start a tradition but that was before we lost our babies.

We have a favorite drink called coquito (ko-KEE-toe). It is drunk at this time of year in most Puerto Rican households, a delicious rum drink made with coconut cream, coconut milk, cinammon, vanilla extract, and evaporated and condensed milk. It will MESS U UP! But it's delicious and it's tradition.
On 10/23/13 Baby Sophie and Baby Gabriel born at 21+5 weeks. They grew wings and flew away from us. May God bless them always. We love you beans!

  • 1. What is your favorite holiday movie/show to watch?
    Probably Elf. Or The Holiday.

    2. In the movies/shows you watch this time of year, who was the scariest Christmas villain to you growing up?
I think of the ghosts from A Christmas Carol, more specifically the Disney Mickey version, which is the one I remember always watching.

    3. What is your favorite holiday tradition that you participate in?
Evey year we walk what is called Christmaa Tree Lane, which is a street in town where they decorate all the houses and trees along the street, and then two nights out of the month, they close the street to cars, and you can walk it and look at lights. We actually went this week and it is a really fun way to get in the holiday spirit.

    4. Of all the "special" drinks and things that come out during the holidays, do you have a favorite that you look forward to?
I don't really have a favorite. The only one I think of is a peppermint mocha, which is pretty delicious.

  • 1. What is your favorite holiday movie/show to watch?
We always watch A Christmas Story. My brother actually got a Red Rider BB Gun because of the movie. BTW He didn't shoot his eye out.

    2. In the movies/shows you watch this time of year, who was the scariest Christmas villain to you growing up?
I don't remember being scared of any Christmas villains growing up.

    3. What is your favorite holiday tradition that you participate in?
My grandmother used to make this stuff called "Party Treat." Now that's she older, she can't really remember how to make it. Now, I make it for everyone while my grandmother sits in the kitchen and keeps me company. I love that time with her.

    4. Of all the "special" drinks and things that come out during the holidays, do you have a favorite that you look forward to?
Anything peppermint related. This isn't a drink, but Sonic used to put out a Holiday Blast and it was the greatest thing on the planet.

That drink sounds a lot like my DH family. They are Haitian and they have a drink called Cremas and it has a lot of what yours has as well as some other things his mom won't tell me :). That too will have you all messed up lol

  • ****ipad post**** 1. What is your favorite holiday movie/show to watch? Don't really have a favorite, but if course we watch A Christmas Story and I like The Holiday. 2. In the movies/shows you watch this time of year, who was the scariest Christmas villain to you growing up? Well I can't say I was afraid of anything unless you count that one movie where the skeleton looking man wanted to do Christmas. The Night Before Christmas it's called. I guess he wasn't a villain it was just different. 3. What is your favorite holiday tradition that you participate in? When we used to go to my grandmas house in Florida before my grandad died we would play Spades or Phase 10 and listen to music and have a great time. Then on Christmas Eve we would all open one gift. 4. Of all the "special" drinks and things that come out during the holidays, do you have a favorite that you look forward to? No I am a wine drinker so I don't really partake in any of the holiday drinks. My DH loves eggnog.

    Thanks for running check-ins @Noethola!

    1. What is your favorite holiday movie/show to watch? Every year, I HAVE to watch the classics [Rudolph, Frosty, Charlie Brown Christmas] and the newer ones [The Holiday and This Christmas]. We usually watch It's a Wonderful Life, too, since my mom loves that movie.

    2. In the movies/shows you watch this time of year, who was the scariest Christmas villain to you growing up? I'm not sure they were really villains, but the ghosts in A Christmas Carol definitely freaked me out.

    3. What is your favorite holiday tradition that you participate in? My sister and I are notorious wrapping procrastinators, so for the past few years, we've spent Christmas Eve night wrapping presents together and talking. She got married this year and may be spending Christmas Eve with her in-laws, so our tradition may be broken...I hope not. But if it is, we'll just FaceTime and do the same thing.

    4. Of all the "special" drinks and things that come out during the holidays, do you have a favorite that you look forward to? I love me some apple cider. I'm not an egg nog fan, so apple cider - and hot cocoa - are my holiday staple drinks. Wassail is awesome, too.

    1. What is your favorite holiday movie/show to watch?  I have so many, A Christmas Story, the cartoons from my childhood, Home Alone....but Christmas Vacation will always be my number one.

    2. In the movies/shows you watch this time of year, who was the scariest Christmas villain to you growing up?  The Grinch

    3. What is your favorite holiday tradition that you participate in? Our traditions have changed over the last couple years.  Every year of my life we always went to church on Christmas Eve and then went to my grandparents to celebrate with them and my aunt and uncle and cousins.  It was also my grandpa's birthday.  The last couple years they were alive I took on the torch of hosting as I could tell it was getting hard on my grandma, and now that they're gone and new members get added to our family (our rainbow, my brother's fiancee) we've changed it to just our family on Christmas eve instead of getting together with aunt/uncle/cousins and their families.  I love Christmas Eve, even more so than Christmas.

    4. Of all the "special" drinks and things that come out during the holidays, do you have a favorite that you look forward to?  I am madly in love with egg nog.  Not sure I can have it this year with the GD, but I hope to at least get a small glass.  I also like peppermint hot chocolate.

    1. What is your favorite holiday movie/show to watch?
My favorite holiday movie is The Nightmare Before Christmas and Elf!

    2. In the movies/shows you watch this time of year, who was the scariest Christmas villain to you growing up?
Elf came out while I was an adult, but the villain being the dad hit home for me considering I spent many Christmas' without my birth father.

    3. What is your favorite holiday tradition that you participate in?my favorite holiday tradition is waking up early thanksgiving day, starting the dinner and watching the Macy's Parade! I couldn't wait to do that with Domenik and show him all the big balloons, he would have loved it being that by next thanksgiving he would have been coming up on his 1st birthday. :(

    4. Of all the "special" drinks and things that come out during the holidays, do you have a favorite that you look forward to?
I just made a batch of my favorite holiday drink! COQUITO!!! And it tastes awesome! Me and my mom talked about Domenik and my DH as we sipped on some coquito.

    1. What is your favorite holiday movie/show to watch? Babes in Toyland and White Christmas.

    2. In the movies/shows you watch this time of year, who was the scariest Christmas villain to you growing up? Barnaby from Babes and Toyland. Nothing scared me more than the idea of a forced marriage to an older man.

    3. What is your favorite holiday tradition that you participate in? We dont do it as much anymore, but as kids, our toys would be hidden throughout the house. Our stocking would have the first clue, and we had to go around following clues to find ours. It was always fun, and we had to help one another out on our separate hunts (there were four of us kids.) Then we brought them all back to the tree to open together. Talk about learning patience!

    4. Of all the "special" drinks and things that come out during the holidays, do you have a favorite that you look forward to? Im usually an eggnog fan, but will have to wait it out until next year.

    Either Elf or Scrooged

    2. In the movies/shows you watch this time of year, who was the scariest Christmas villain to you growing up?
I always thought the Ghost of Christmas Future was super creepy (the one in the Mickey Christmas Carol version).

    3. What is your favorite holiday tradition that you participate in?
On Christmas eve, we do the Italian "Feast of Seven Fishes" dinner. We make a huge seafood dinner with all types of sides. We love cooking, so it's a lot of fun for us.

    4. Of all the "special" drinks and things that come out during the holidays, do you have a favorite that you look forward to?
I like a poinsettia (champagne and cranberry), but I tried one with champagne, applejack, and muddled apple and thought that was tasty, too.
