I had my daughter on monday and still have not all the feeling back in my right foot. I had an epidural for 12 hours during labor. The anesthesiologist says that my spine does curve to the right so maybe the catheter dug into a nerve. Im so scared I will not get the feeling back. The anesthesiologist says he's concerned that it's been a whole week and no improvement so he is sending me to a neurologist for further test. Anyone else had this issue before????
Personally I have been lucky to not have nerve damage but as a therapist I've treated it many many times. If on the off chance you do have nerve damage it is not a certainly that you'll have permanent nerve damage. Nerves often times regenerate. They do so very slowly but they do often regrow. I won't lie it's a painful process but don't freak out until you see the neuro. Fx for all that's needed is time.
I lost feeling on the inside of my right leg. I'm 10 days since giving birth and the feeling started to come back after about a week as the swelling went down. I still don't have all the feeling back in my knee but its much better.
Last baby, my left leg took about day to feel again, but I made myself walk around and that helped. My cousin had some slight nerve damage and is still feeling the effects occasionally and her son was born a year ago. Make sure your dr knows this right away so you can be referred to a specialist.
I had my dd in 2011 and i had two epidural a placed during labor. A day or two later I realized I fad no feeling in my upper thigh. It was just numb - and it was a large area too. No one could really explain or offer any solutions except time. I think it took about 3 months but I stopped feeling numb. I did not need my thigh the way you need a foot but time really made it better.
I hope the same happens for you. For the record, I absolutely plan to get another epi with this baby.
