Gallbladder issues?

Hi N13,

I've been out of commission for awhile!  Had every intention of posting my birth story, but you'll see why that hasn't happened yet.   Hayden was born on 11/24 via c-section.  I was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday, 11/27.  We were able to enjoy Thanksgiving with my husbands family, however I did feel like I was battling a gas bubble for most of the day.  By 7pm that evening I was in the ER with excruitiating abdominal pain talking VERY close to the same pain level of full blown labor.  The pain was intestinal and also under my ribs on the right side and in my right shoulder.  I was admitted and ended up spending another 4 nights in the hospital with a newborn (breastfeeding) and MH.  Eventual diagnosis was a partial blockage of my intestines and an inflamed gallbladder that may end up being removed.

Seems the more people that find out what happened, the more stories I hear of folks having gallbladder issues after pregnancy.  I am the solo N13'er suffering from gallbladder issues?  I REALLY don't want to have another surgery, however, I am SO sick of not feeling 100%.  Keep in mind that all of this is going on while trying to recover from a c-section.  NOT fun.

Commiserate with me ladies...anyone?

Re: Gallbladder issues?

  • I had a c-section on 10/29.. A gallbladder attack on 11/24 and had mine removed 12/6.

It's very common after pregnancy. I say remove it now while you are on leave. I got mine out ASAP bc I can't afford to miss work.

  • I have birth on 11/19. Since I was 27 weeks pregnant they have found that my kidney was swollen and that I have gallstones. So that lovely feeling you are having I have had since 20 weeks or so pregnant, and the bigger baby got the worse the pain got; and then baby got big enough to kick me in my gallbladder. It was definitely not pleasant.

Once I fully recover from labor and child birth I will be receiving gallbladder surgery to remove my gallbladder.

If you are interested/willing there are some homeopathic remedies to gallbladder issues that some people swear by, and thus never need the surgery. I however, did not find any relief from these things. The only thing that semi takes the edge off is to take Zantac.

Good luck with everything, but everyone I talk to says the surgery is no biggie and they all recovered quickly and feel much better now!
  • I had gallbladder issues before pregnancy and was advised to have it removed but I wanted to change my lifestyle and try to keep it. Ppl had told me they still had problems with digestion even after removal of their gallbladder. I made it through my entire pregnancy and delivery without any trouble. I cut out fried, spicy, and cut way back on high cholesterol foods (animal products), increased fruits, veggies, vitamin d, and water. I dropped 30 lbs from a thick 155 and felt great on this lifestyle change. Everyone is different though so this may not work for you like it did for me. Some ppl are better off having it removed.

  • lamo1210  Can I ask how your recovery is going?    I don't want to take more time from my baby during leave but if that is where I'm headed I might as well go ahead and have it out sooner than later so I can start feeling better.  Any info would be appreciated!  Thanks much ladies!!
