Brainstorm for Halloween costumes?

I know, I know, it's super early...but if I don't start now, I'm never going to find time to make Halloween costumes, and I have not-so-fond memories of up until 1 AM on Oct 30 from last year finishing the costume for the daycare party!

Any cute ideas, or places to look for ideas?

Are you going to let your kid choose, give them a choice, or just give them a costume?

I'm thinking newbie will be the very hungry caterpillar. He's always eating, so it's appropriate, but also I started this costume for Sebastian, and then he got sick and couldn't wear it for Halloween after all.

No idea for Sebastian. I could totally go easy on myself and have him be a fireman - he likes them and we already have a hat. I'm sure I could get a cheap coat and he could wear it again. He could be a butterfly in tandem with his brother. Or I could let him dream something else up.

I don't think if I asked Noah what he wanted to be for Halloween that he would "get it" yet. So I'll probably give him 2-3 options and let him pick. I think he would LOVE to be Mickey Mouse, but I really don't want to have to buy one! I'm sure a true Mickey outfit would be pretty pricey!

I purchased a very cute mini mouse costume for DD for $8.00 or less from Kohls on clearance. All I need are shoes! I got this some time in winter.

I am not ready to let her pick but think she will love it regardless!

I asked Avery what she wanted to be for Halloween and she said "Elmo." She is not even into Elmo anymore, but she was Elmo last year and I don't think she realizes that she has options.

I haven't even thought about costumes yet. I'll pick their costumes for now though since I'm sure years of Spider-Man and Cinderella are in my future.

I'll have to come up with something equally as cute as last year. O was a knight and G was a dragon.

I was looking online for cheaper costumes a few weeks ago. Some I thought were cute were Izzy from Jake and the Neverland Pirates and Minnie Mouse. Last year I just went with what was on sale - a bumble bee. It was really cute. DH and I are really into college football and were contemplating a Ducks cheer outfit but those are pricey.

But she could wear it the whole season, so you'll get a lot of use out of it

Ok, how did I not know you are Duck fans? I got my BFFs daughter a Duck cheer outfit for this upcoming Christmas. I got it so early because it was on clearance at TJMaxx for $12!!!

I have been asking J what he wants to be for Halloween and he says "noooo" to each of my suggestions. lol I guess I'll have to show him some costumes and let him pick.

I'm all for cheap, though, so whatever he picks I will probably make. I was thinking maybe Waldo. I could crochet him a hat, and we have some black glasses with no lenses. Last year he was a farmer. He wore a plaid shirt, overalls, a straw hat and bandana. I made him a little stuffed cow to carry and he had a mini galvanized pail for candy.

Yep, I married a Ducks fan so I kind of became one too lol. Very interested to see how they do without Chip Kelly this year. Doesn't sounds like he's off to a great start though (heard one of his players got hurt already at training camp) I'll have to check TJMaxx. SO EXCITED we are finally getting one expected to open in a couple weeks.

J is going to be Buzz Lightyear. I found a website with a tutorial to make it myself. I bought some stuff to get started last weekend.

He asks all the time if he's going to be Buzz and he remembers being Thomas last year.

I actually asked C last night and he said he wanted to "be a froggy and wear froggy pants and a froggy shirt". I guess I'll ask again in a few weeks before I start hunting for a froggy costume, haha!

Newbie will be a monkey because that's what we have from Nate's hand-me-downs. So Nate will probably also be a jungle animal of some sort - whatever they have at the JBF sale.

@ken&kendra So funny you are thinking of doing the hungry caterpillar! I really wanted to do sibling costumes that would work for a newborn and toddler so I decided to the hungry caterpillar and the butterfly. I'm getting a sewing machine for my bday so I'm making a quilted sleep sack type thing for my caterpillar and hazel will wear a leotard and tutu and I'll make her some fancy Eric Carle wings. I even found some hungry caterpillar fabric online to make her treat bag as well. I'm so excited for it.

I *want* to do something like Super Mario as a family or raggedy Anne and Andy but I think we'll just end up letting them pick 2 different animal/bug costumes.

We are thinking that J will likely be Batman and A will be Robin, we found some infant Robin costumes. We asked him a while back, and he didn't really have an opinion yet, but I'm sure as the costumes start hitting the stores that he'll probably develop his own soon.
