Trouble TTC

Cost of IUI

I have never done an IUI but I feel like if things don't change it might be an option for us.  We are pretty much all out of pocket.  My insurance pays a small percentage for the U/S and they pay for testing.  Does anyone have a rough estimate how much IUI is?  They told us how much IVF was for an employee of the Cleveland Clinic but never IUI.

Me: 35   DH:  29

Edit - just to clarify, this is for the sperm wash and IUI. This price doesn't include monitoring appts or meds. I have spent $950 each cycle so far counting monitoring appts, meds, IUI, etc.

  • I had to have extra monitoring so lots of ultra sounds but typically I pay out of pocket about $250 for my meds and then about $1200 per IUI with my monitoring and such.  I have pretty decent insurance for now but it is ending...

  • I am 100% out of pocket for anything fertility related. For one cycle mine is about $1k for the iui, sperm wash, and one ultrasound, I also spend about $150 for the clomid and trigger. However, check into a "cash payment discount". If we pay for the entire amount within two weeks of receiving the bill, we get a 30% discount. This brings the clinic portion (minus the drugs) down to $700 per cycle.
Me: 40, Hypothyroidism, well managed, TSH 1.99
DH: 44 Fine except for low morphology
    TTC since 02/2013
    08/13: Day 3 tests (ESTRADIOL 20.8; AMH 1.1; FSH 6.2)
    12/13 HSG, all clear
    11/13-5/14 - IUIs #1-3, BFNs,
6/14 to present: Taking a break, getting healthier, researching IVF
Planning for IVF in late summer 2015

  • I'm paying totally out of pocket as well and will pay $1,200 (Orange County, CA). This includes U/S, monitoring, testing, IUI, but does not include medication. I'm going to check this week if my insurance will cover the prescriptions for Clomid. It is definitely interesting to see the prices around the country.

    Thanks,

    Me: 33, DH: 32

    TTC: 2 years
    Fertility blood tests all normal
    Tilted uterus
    3 day ultrasound 17 follicles
    HSG: 11/13/13- tubes open
DH SA: SUPER sperm (145 million, 84% motility, 22% morphology)
All infection disease and immunity blood tests NORMAL

FIRST IUI May 2014: 100 mg Clomid days 5-9, third ultrasound CD 13 revealed four follicles 27, 24 and 20 and 13mm. Trigger shot May 28 with IUI May 29 and 30 (fingers crossed) - BFN started spotting 11DPO :(

IUI #2 B2B 6/23 and 6/24, three mature eggs and 130 million sperm! FX this is the month!  BFN 7/8

3rd cycle benched due to cysts - TI with OPK tests -  BFN

3rd mediated cycle: Clomid+Trigger+TI  (three follies left side, one on right as usual....what the hell right ovary get it together and produce some damn follicles!) 7DPO progesterone level 43 with NO suppositories YAY for a natural strong ovulation. Beta canceled started spotting 13DPO - Third time is not a CHARM! 14 day cycle WTF! Everything looks normal - RE wants to start injectables next cycle so this cycle I'm benched

Officially benched until March....but still plan on trying the baking soda douche due to my excessive and thick CM

JANUARY SIGGY CHALLENGE...This is so me!

Love this man....he was so before his time in his thoughts and ideas about the world....been obsessed about him lately bringing it back to the early 90s.

  • My protocol: 1st baseline ultrasound: $280.  Clomid: $60.  2nd Ultrasound plus cost of trigger shot: $380.  IUI (assuming follies are good): $300.  Prometrium: $60.  So the average cost per cycle for me is $1088.  I use donor sperm from a cryobank so I don't get charged for sperm washing or anything like that, just the thaw which is included in the IUI charge.

Hope this helps!  It's so hard to nail down the cost since it varies by clinic.

Hey! I would like to know if there is anyone out there in the NC/SC area who has used REACH. How much was your IUI? It might be an option for us after my DH has his semen analysis tomorrow which I am really nervous about. Our insurance, which is Cigna does not cover much of anything so we will probably being paying out of pocket. Also what medicines would have to be taken?
