Re: s/o beverages... Soda or Pop?

  • Where I grew up they say soda, where we live now they say pop, so depending on who I am talking to I switch back and forth, otherwise I get made fun of.

  • I always say pop.

  • Noooo pop. Pop is a noise. Soda is what you drink. Coke or soda is acceptable. Pop makes me want to punch someone. LOL

  • I can't believe I'm the only one that calls it pop. Nobody around here class it soda.

cooldrink?  huh.  That one is entirely new to me.
People wouldn't understand me if I asked for either soda or pop.

  • I'm going to start saying cooldrink around here and see if it catches on! Funny @LorMor, that's a new one on me, too!

I always say soda. In PA and WA a lot of people say pop and it really bugs me. In TX most people say Coke, even if you are talking about a diffferent type of soda. Drives me batty.
Western PA is pop, eastern PA is soda. I grew up near Philly and went to college in Pittsburgh. Such a battle up there!

I also grew up near Philly and went college (and now live) in Pittsburgh. Yes it's a battle, that's why I have to use both.
  • @angelacz87 sigh. And here I thought we were friends!

I want to visit you someday @LorMor.  Not in a creepy way or anything, just to hear everyone talk.
I can think of soooo many things off the top of my head that we have different words for.

We don't use diapers or a crib, we don't eat cookies or candy, we don't drink soda or pop. My friend is actually staying in Seattle for the next two years. You can hunt her down and make her talk.

  • @LorMor where do you live?

So I am trying to guess some of your words.
    Nappies for diapers?  CORRECT
No clue on crib.  COT (To me, a crib is for tiny babies, e.g. a Moses basket)
Biscuits for cookies?  Or maybe digestives (I can't remember if that was cookies or something else)? CORRECT, BISCUITS
Candy I dunno, sweets seems too easy. SWEETS

Also, a Pack 'n Play is a camp cot.

Same in my area, though when speaking in general it is most definitely pop.
