N2IFR: how do you take a shower?

Okay here's the thing:

How do you take shower/get ready with LO? I'm going on 2 yrs of motherhood and still do not have this mastered? When is it okay (if ever) to leave them not attended? My DS can climb out of a play pen, will soon master escaping the crib ...

I' ve done showers with him but we're getting to a point where that's creepy lol

My other choice is to lock him in the bathroom with me (but not in the shower)

If I showered with the door open I could see into the living room...

How do you ladies manage this?

My other options are 6 am or his 2 pm naptime...

Sorry I know this is such a simple thing but seriously someone needs to write a book on it!

Re: N2IFR: how do you take a shower?

  • When DD1 was little I would just bring toys into the bathroom and let her play in there while I showered. When that stopped working I think I resorted to a movie or something and kept the door opened.

  • I shower at night after DS has gone to bed.  It's problematic enough when DS wakes up too early and I'm not ready for work yet, so I can't imagine working a shower into the mix as well.  DS is too clingy in the mornings to allow for effective multi-tasking.

  • I just shut the bathroom door or bedroom door and have her play in there while I shower.  She does really well with it, and obviously I've childproofed the room mostly.  I will stick my head out once or twice and call her over to check on her.  That, and shower quickly.
Trying for #2 with IVF after damage done in a D&C left me with one functioning (but too scarred) ovary and tube to get pregnant safely without assistance. It's a really, really long story, but that is the gist of it.  We have one daughter (whose c-section birth started this roller coaster) born in 2012 after a miscarriage in 2011.
Failed 1st attempt at IVF (Fresh ET day 3, 1 frozen embryo saved) in December 2013.
Failed 2nd attempt at IVF (Fresh ET day 5, 2 frozen embryos saved) in February 2014.

Well DD is 6 now, so its not an issue anymore... But when she was little I would bring her carseat into the bathroom and strap her in it with some toys... Door open of course, so she didn't get too hot. I figured 5-10 minutes of sitting put wouldnt hurt her.

    edit: typo

@+southernmomma+ if it makes you feel better, DD2 woke up last night at like 1am SOBBING. I got her back to bed and she was finally able to get out that she was upset because the ice in her water cup had melted  :-w It's tough being 3.

LMAO!!!! Oh my word!! Kids are so dramatic sometimes, lol. Hope her "Melt down", quite literally lol... didn't last long and you got some sleep :P
  • I used to either take a shower when my DD was sleeping or put her in a pack and play right outside the bathroom or in the bathroom with me with toys for her to play with.

  • Ever since she could hold up her head, I've taken her in the shower with me. It's so much easier now that she brings her dinosaurs in the tub and "washes" them while I get showered, and then wash her up in 25 seconds. I will ask her now if she would rather take a bath before bed, but most of the time she'd rather just take a quick shower with mommy, and I mean QUICK- I can get us both totally showered and dried off in less than 10 mins.

So if you can't just take him in the shower with you, I would bring some toys in the bathroom, put some cartoons on the TV for him and just try to be super quick about it, wait until he is napping to get ready, etc, etc. It's probably easier with a girl, because even when I am trying to do my makeup, she will just sit on the floor and pretend to put her own makeup on if I give her a brush, Idk if a boy would even find this remotely interesting?? lol

My boy is all about rummaging through my make-up and playing with brushes.  I'm not sure how long it will last but at 25 month, it's still a fun game. :)

Perfect! That is exactly what I would do then lol

Give him a few brushes, and let him pretend makeup with Mommy :P
