Messy eater

Does anyone else with a BF baby feel like they need to shower after every feed? Each time I pull DD off my breast her face is covered in milk (quite funny to look at) as is my entire side and stomach ( not so funny). I should mention that we are currently using a shield for some sore nipple issues but it happens withiut one as well. My favorite part is when she's done and she rubs her face all over and gets both of us even messier! Any pointers here before my water bill goes through the roof?

Re: Messy eater

  • Not a messy eater at all :) I have to shove a towel under my arm, a burp cloth just didn't cut it.

  • Sticky and messy shield user here too! The only thing that helps me is to hold my breast around the bottom and hold the bottom seal of the shield tight against my skin with my fingers. I found that helps control the dripping and keeps the burp cloth in place. Good luck!

  • Same here. We are weaning from the shield. Shelby likes to trigger let down and then let go of her latch. With or without the shield in place. If we are using the shield, she ends up knocking it off with her hand and all the milk falls on me. Without the shield she gets sprayed in the face. When she is done she has a full milk beard instead of a mustache.
She is getting better. I keep a receiving blanket nearby and put it under my breasts and under her chin. It helps.

  • I used to resort to just taking my top and bra completely off and wrapping a towel around me...now I tuck a hand towel in my bra ( under both boobs just to hold in place) my let down is under better control at almost 6 weeks now. May have sonething to do with the sudafed I had to take for 3 days last week....
  • The tucked towel sounds like a great idea! I used to think it had to do with my let down until I started with the shield and she still looks like she should be on a "got milk " ad! My favorite is when she comes off with the milk all over and lets out a manly burp. Such a lady!
  • I dont have a messy eater but I drip. A lot! If I take my boob out without a burp cloth right there or him to start nursing I can drench myself, couch, feet, my bed. Anything in my way! So I tuck a burp cloth under my boob and cover it while I'm getting him ready then fold it down to cover my stomach while he's nursing. And fold it up to burp him so it don't drench him.
  • Messy sheild user here too. I keep a receiving blanket under her and my boob and a wash cloth close by to whipe off the extra when we break or are done.
