Went from great sleeper to bad!

DD has been sttn since about 6w. 4 weeks ago this has changed. She wakes crying and refuses her paci...almost every single night. At first she was easy to get back down, but is becoming more and more difficult. If I let her cry (5 min max), she just gets extra worked up. We now have to hold her till she's sound asleep before putting her down. I'm at a loss. How can she change like this so suddenly? Anyone commiserating with me? Any suggestions?

  • Thanks. I feel like everything is, or could be, teething and yet no tooth!! I keep telling myself that it's a phase and she'll get past it. Just hope it's soon!!

  • Is your LO hungry? My guy was sttn for months but recently went through a growth spurt and needed a MOTN feeding again.
  • I don't think so only because she barely wakes up. As soon as we pick her up she falls back to sleep

  • @beaubecca sounds like we're on the same page. We feel like something must be wrong since she was never like this, so I don't want to just let her scream.

  • It might be a comfort thing, it might be a teething thing, it could be anything.
DD has been very hard to get to sleep at night over the last week. I'm guessing teething. Try giving her motrin, ora-gel or some gripe water when she does wake, and see if that helps.

  • Jack just went through this. STTN at 6 weeks and then bam all of a sudden up every single hour for about a month straight. He just started STTN again about 10 days ago.

Couple of things: A. He had a double ear infection for how long, who knows. B. Could have been teething, still no teeth though. C. He got his helmet and could be from that.

Things we changed and who knows which one helped: A. switched to a thicker sleep sack instead of the magic sleep suit with an extra onesie underneath. B. fixed the ear infection. C. elevated one side of his crib, slightly. D. really practiced him being able to put his own binkie in while he was awake so he now can do it when he sleeps.

Regarding CIO...we tried it one night after 2 weeks straight of waking every hour. We failed after about an hour. Now that we know he had a double ear infection and that it could have been his reason for waking I feel like absolute dogshit for doing CIO.

  • We are on week 7 of shitty sleep. I can't remember the last time I slept more than 5 hours a night.

And those 5 hours are definitely not consecutive.

  • @oohgurl thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you've reached the light at the end of the tunnel! I thought of ear infection, but she was checked two weeks ago when she was already doing this and hasn't shown any new symptoms since. And she's a pro at putting her paci in. In fact most times she'll only take it if she can do it herself.

  • I'll join this club too! LO is hit or miss these days if she will STTN. We play why is baby not sleeping bingo trying to guess the reason because teething comes up but no teeth can be seen or felt.

  • This happened to me too. She started STTN at 6 weeks old and at 5 months something changed. I stil have no idea besides teething. She is now almost 7 months and just starting to sleep longer stretches . 7-8 hours. Sometimes she still wakes 2-3 times a night but for the most part it's slowly getting better again. Hang in there! There are lots of us in the same boat.

  • Oh lawd I am in this boat right now.  For the last 2 weeks DS has been a NIGHTMARE.  He goes down easily (gets a bottle & some motrin if he's extra fussy).  Then he wakes up EVERY DAMN HOUR.  He would go down at about 7:30-8.  Then up every hour until midnight when I just give up and put him in the Rock n Play next to our bed.  Then he'll usually only wake up once (around 3-4) until he gets up for the day around 6.

I'm at an utter loss and I'm going insane.  He eats every time he's up too.  One night, between 10p & 4a he ate 12 oz!  That's a lot for him.
