Pineapple does not induce labor. The enzyme bromelain found in pineapple (mainly the core) can help to soften the cervix. It is a digestive enzyme and can also help to stimulate bowel movements which can cause contractions. However, if your body is not ready to have a baby bromelain will not do anything. It is also used as a natural anti inflammatory, so it may actually help to ease discomfort. You would need to take it in supplement form though, eating pineapple is likely to do nothing.

Haha. I love pineapple and it definitely is refreshing and delicious. I just picture women desparate to induce labor shoveling lots of pineapple in expecting it to lead to baby, when in reality it will probably just lead to a lot of poop.
I ate 3 fresh pineapples when I was trying to go into labor with Emma and it gave me a crap ton of cramps but no labor. When I went in for an induction, I was 4 cm dilated. So although it didn't put me into labor, I think it had a lot to do with my dilating. Who knows.

What makes me sad, is that you had to put "please no one do this" because you know that there is at least one person on here...who would try it...hahaha
I haven't done pineapple, but with my first I tried almost everything else...eggplant parm, massages with peppermint oil, the list goes on and on...none of it worked though Baby comes when baby wants
I know that none of this stuff actually works, but I think it helps us to feel like we are doing something while we wait. I'm not holding out any hope that food will induce labor but at least it makes me feel like I have some semblance of control...even if it's just a false sense of control at best.
