Short: Baby L finally made her appearance on 12/5/13! Everyone is great !
Long: I went into the hospital at 7:30pm on 12/4 to have cervidil placed. At 7:30am on 12/5, they started pitocin. Contractions started FAST! By 10am my contractions were "moderate intensity" (think active labor) lasting 3-5 min each with 0-1 min break between. It was not unbearable, probably a 7 on the pain scale. At noon, I got checked again, I was at 1.5 cm. All that work for almost no progress! I caved and got the epidural. I figured if 1.5 cm was that bad, I KNEW I could not handle 7-10!
One the epidural was in , the doctor came and broke my water. I could feel how strong each contraction was (and they were still going long with no breaks between!) but they were no longer painful.
At 4pm, the doctor came back to check me, I was at 8 cm! I started pushing at 5:30, and she was born at 6:20! The epidural was enough to relieve pain, but I could feel each contraction to know when to push, and I could feel if my pushes were effective.
ETA: her gigantic head (14.25"!!!) gave me a 2nd degree tear, but the recovery is not as bad as I expected. She was 7lbs 8oz, and 22" long.
L came out perfect! She scored a 9 on her apgar, and latched within the first hour. She is a champion breast feeder, she's alert and curious, and DH and I could not be more in love!
