Switching formula

My 9 week old son has a milk protein allergy. I switched from similac alimentum to elecare with no milk or soy this morning. With every burp my son spits up a lot more than he used to. Is this normal after the change? Thanks!

Re: Switching formula

  • Not sure if this is normal or not, but is it possible he has reflux also?

  • My son is on Neocate...the other formula to Elecare.  He spits up clear sour smelling mess.  He probably has some reflux.  Jake takes Zantac from time to time.  It will take a few weeks for your LO's insides to heal from the previous formulas.  Ask about putting a small amount of cereal in his night time bottle too.  I only have to use about a 1/2 tsp for a 4oz bottle to see a difference.  Keep LO somewhat elevated when feeding.  Jake pretty much sits straight up to eat.  OH, I also have to stop him and burp him more often.  That could also be the problem.  Try burping 2-3 times.  LO may get mad about the stops, but it helps the backlash!
