Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Head Control

Does anyone else have a LO right around 3-4 months that doesn't have FULL head control yet? Our little guy is able to hold his head up during tummy time but is still a bit wobbly when we have him sitting up. At times, we're still having to support the back of his head. I'm only worried about the milestones bc he was born with cataracts which have been treated but of course leave us with other concerns as 1st time parents with nothing to compare his progress to =/

Re: Head Control

  • I would say that's normal. My lo is 5 months now and holds her head up very well. At 3 to 4 months she definitely had a wobbly head.

  • My LO is 4 months today and although he does have great head control our pedi wouldn't be concerned if he didn't. Babies develop at different stages at this point.

  • DS is 3 months.  He generally has good head control but sometimes it wobbles - especially if he's tired.  I think of it this way - he's only been ALIVE for 3 months! I'm amazed at what he can do already.  I'm sure your LO will get there.  It's not like he has NO head control.  He just has to strengthen the muscles a bit more.  It will happen.
  • Thank you ladies. Worrying too much for my own good. Hubby says I need to stop with the milestone concerns. I think it'd be easier if he didn't have the eye issues which just adds more stress into the mix. Appreciate your feedback!

  • Well I feel a lot better. Friends or acquaintances always have their remarks/opinions "Oh, he doesn't have FULL control of his head yet?!" Makes ya feel REAL confident, lol.

This.  My LO is the same way.  He does pretty darn good most of the time.  If he is tired, he gets floppy.
