July 2013 Moms

That's it. I'm never moving there.

The whole 'we might move to Montana' thing is off! This isn't even as cold as it gets. You Canadians have thicker skin than I do. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QEUGecaAVbc&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DQEUGecaAVbc

  • I did that in 2009 and I'm in NW Indiana less than an hour from Chicago. It hasn't been that cold since, I don't think. The lake keeps us a little warmer in the winter here.

  • St. Louis gets pretty cold. At least I thought it did.

  • @britnpat curious where in nw in? I grew up there
  • That just sounds miserable. No thanks

  • It's not so bad if you know how to handle it. I had a few days when I was walking to university bundled up so only my eyes showed where I realized how easy it was for people to actually die from the cold.... But being prepared does a lot for you. :)

I have lived up near the Yukon and on the border with Alaska as well as on the (Canadian) prairies, and it ain't so bad if you know how to do it. ;)

  • I went to school in VT up near the Canadian border. My first year I remember checking the weather bug on my computer and thinking "huh. -35. That must be a mistake." Nope. Not a mistake. And hence why I moved back to RI after graduation.

  • If it helps, there are parts of MT that don't get that cold regularly. Billings is considered the "oasis" of Montana because it usually stays a bit warmer there than other places. It's been kind of a freak winter temp wise in Billings this year. But hey, the good thing is that in temps that cold, your body acclimates to it pretty quick if you keep bundled up and 20* then feels like summer :) Sucky fact for your kids: snow days are pretty much non-existent unless the heat is out in the school or buses weren't left running overnight...

  • Sweet Mother Mary, baby Jesus & a camel!!! Many camels! (Many welps? WoW reference...)

Just no. I will take the triple digits during the summers here (108*F please) over numb-me-down-to-my -soul cold like that.

We would be on the other side of the state. Helena. DH grew up in a tiny town about 30 miles from there. He does do well with cold. I just don't. At all.

  • I actually used to live just across the border from Montana.  We used to shop in Kalispell and visit in Whitefish. I lived in a town called Cranbrook on the BC side. Beautiful area of the world. :)

  • Helena isn't bad, either! I actually enjoy visiting. It's a pretty place.
@thegoodpotato I love Kalispell and Whitefish! Sooo pretty. My bestie was a caretaker at a ranch in that area and I loved visiting her and helping her out. Just wish I could afford to live there Lol

  • Ditto what prim said. I'd take triple digits any day. It was 27 or something the other day and I thought I was going to die. This is Texas. We don't do that. Our skin is too thin. We're like reptiles!
  • Now, the real thing you have to decide before making the decision to live in MT (or surrounding area) is whether or not you find it acceptable to have snowstorms in June :)

  • @mystererae Our lows have been in the 60s and I have been watching people wander around all bundled up because it was misty/foggy all day making it feel cooler than that. I just shook my head. At least you have a reason to "keep warm"!
