Question???

SO, apparently I got flagged from someone on here for giving advice about natural remedies for sore throats?  Can anyone just flag you for anything?  What happens if you get flagged?  Also, I think if you get flagged, the person should have some respect and at least say that they are flagging you!

Re: Question???

  • Anyone can flag for any reason they want. If it isn't a rules violation eventually a mod will get to the post in the queue and remove the flag. Abuse of the flag can get you banned :) Some people think it's a disagree button. It's not.

If you were following the board rules- nothing's going to happen to you! It'll just get cleared later on.

  • @hatchetface -Thanks!  I think it's too easy to flag people.  They need to make it so when you flag someone, you have to write a reason why you are flagging them and then hit a submit button.  It is really stupid, but I would like to think that my commenting isn't inappropriate!

  • It is really easy when mobile bumping to accidentaly hit the flag button ... I may have hit myself once just trying to scroll.. I wouldn't be to worried as long as you're not spanking your 6month old I think you're fine .

  • I have done that in the past too, but immediately I PM them to tell them I didn't mean it, it was a mistake, blah blah blah.  I just think that it's crazy that you can just hit a button with no explanation and someone gets flagged.  It should be a little harder...like having to explain yourself and then hit submit.  @hatchetface I was on the Dec 13 board, but had a m/c...never got to the point of flagging anyone.  It would have to be really bad for me to flag someone and really mean it.  I didn't even flag crazy spanking lady, but I almost called a friend who works in DSS(CPS) and asked her opinion on if I should call her states CPS.

  • WTF is up with all the spam flags then? Do people not know what spam is? "This post reminds me of canned meat. Flag."

Accidentally flagged someone the other day when I was on mobile because my phone froze up. And the sad thing is that I realized it happened but before I could scroll up and see who it was my app shut itself down.

If it was you I'm sorry!

I accidentally hit the flag button on mobile but it looked like I needed to hit it again to acutally send it through? I hope it didn't actually flag!

ETA: this was a few weeks ago. I think if a flag comes thru on a random post it was prob just a mistake.

  • Yes I have also flagged several posts, completely by accident on mobile. When you go to click the back button, sometimes it's in the same area as the flag button. I'm sure yours was completely accidental, I think if most people don't like the post, they just move on without flagging unless it's something they find really offensive.

Same way you can tell when someone loves your post. It shows up exactly the same but instead of a heart beside the person's avatar, you see a greyed-out bomb type of thing.

It was me!  I was so confused...I was like..."am I not allowed to suggest people look on the internet for natural remedies?"  I'm always afraid of getting in trouble on the internet!

  • When I first joined I think I flagged someone on accident. I'm mostly on here via my mobile device. I'm sure you will be fine. Your advice sounds harmless (and useful) :)

  • If I'm scrolling in my phone with my left hand, it is so easy to hit the flag button.
  • I agree it was most likely a mistake. I've had a moment of panic when my phone froze and I thought I flagged instead of loved it. When I went back in it wasn't flagged but I can see how it could happen on the app.

It could have been an accident. Fat finger disease, ya know? I've almost accidentally flagged people on mobile when just scrolling.

This. I'm always scared I might do this on mobile.

Just call the person out and find out! It could have totally been an accident.

Edit: missed the post where they realized it was them.

Yeah...it's been handled.  She was very nice about it!  Thanks!  I honestly thought I did something wrong!

  • I've flagged a few posts on the mobile app and it is actually hard to untag. Maybe it was an accident?

  • I got flagged the other day, I just assume they meant to "love it," because surely no one would flag me!

  • Agree that it's easy to do on mobile. (And I'm sorry if I've accidentally flagged anyone!)

  • I have flagged and liked on accident. Its the mobile app. Luckily the likes you can reverse - especially when your just lurking.
  • I have flagged on accident :/. But when I did I told them in the post that I didn't mean to. It's very easy to do on mobile and It was just a one touch and it was done (it didn't ask me if it was spam). I also haven't figured out how to unflag, I tried clicking it again and that didn't work. Is there a way to undo it?

I'm on mobile, and sometimes I hit the flag button by accident (though I don't think it was me who flagged you.) Usually I catch my mistake, because usually I want to like, or reply, and my thumb just hit the flag button on accident... hopefully this could be the case?

ETA: I posted this before reading all the comments... sorry for saying what others have already said!
  • @hatchetface speaks the truth. Not encouraging flagging- just acknowledging that there's nothing stopping idiots from doing so for whatever bizarre reasons they make up... And saying that there should be no harm for someone who was accidentally flagged. Heck, I got a flag for my earlier post in this thread. No harm done.

Yeah I really hope I haven't accidentally done this to anyone! Please, anyone let me know if I have because I didn't mean to. I haven't flagged anyone on purpose so it's definitely a mistake!
