Nursery or no?

I'm 19 weeks & starting to think about the nursery. The problem is our house is on the market and I have no idea when it may sell. We are tight on space and storage and looking to upgrade. Is it okay if I don't have a nursery ready when the baby comes? I'm thinking just a basinet may do the job for a few months. Or is it better to go ahead and set up the nursery...possibly twice and have that much more stuff to move?

It's fine not to have a nursery. If I were you I'd just get a nice mini crib for your room that you can use longer than a bassinet, just in case it takes longer than planned since you can only use a bassinet 2-4 months. Plus a lot of mini cribs can be converted like normal cribs.

We live in a small condo so we started out with a cosleeper in our room, a rocker and changing table (changing pad on top of our desk) in the living room and 2 shelves on the wall with DD's clothing and blankets. DD slept in our room until 8 months old, and we didn't set up her nursery until then.

Our DS didn't even sleep in his crib until after he was one!! He was co sleeping while BF which led to bed sharing.

He slept in his rock n play till he was almost 7 months old anyway!

You don't need a nursery right away. Most likely, your baby will be in your room for the first half of his/her's life anyway which will give you time to work on one after the birth. We had an nursery set up, but DS still slept in a pack n' play next to our bed for awhile.

Nope, we had our nursery set up and DS didn't sleep in there til just before his 1st birthday (although I did always dress him in there and change his diaper during the day). I wanted to add the pack n play with the newborn napper & diaper changer was very helpful to us the first couple of months. We also loved the rock n play, especially with DS's acid reflux problems. I think as long as you have a place to store everything, I wouldn't worry about paint and all that, I would probably hold off on the crib and furniture until I moved too, if the trim colors mismatching bothers you (unless of course you know what house you are buying :-))

You don't need a nursery right away. My son didn't sleep in the nursery until 7 months old. AAP recommends baby sleep in the parents' room for 6 months, lowers SIDS risk.

Ditto previous posters. In fact my son's nursery was not completely "done" until he was maybe 8 months old. We live in a 2 story house with our master downstairs and his nursery upstairs. He uses the nursery to sleep and that is it. It is much more convenient for us to change his diaper, clothes etc. downstairs since that is where we are 95% of the time.
