Bottle Nipple Cleaning - BONUS PIP

Warning: this is probably a dumb FTM question.

Now that I'm back to work, DD gets 3-4 bottles per day of pumped milk. Last Friday, we noticed the nipples are cloudy and gritty. I've washed with soap and water, boiled, cleaned inside and out with the pipe-cleaner-thing, and run them through the dishwasher. They look clean at first, but after about 30 minutes the grit and grime appear again.

Does this mean I need new bottle nipples? Or is there a secret, special way to clean them?

    I have no clue.. But I will be following bc we've noticed this as well and I'm hoping there's a secret!! Ps Your little girl is so stinkin adorable.

    I add lemon juice to the boiling water- that helps :-)

    It might be hard water deposit. I know it might sound weird, but try soaking in vinegar then wash/boil so there's no residue left over. We've had the same thing happen to us.

    I started soaking bottles and stuff in hot water mixed with dawn that has a grease remover. It seems to help better than the Medela BM removing soap. I also use a drying mat that supposedly prevents condensation on bottles and glasses while drying.

    @hiddenmickey Bed bath and beyond. I'm actually going to pick up another one since it's so awesome. It is double sided with the fast drying side being a silver color. If I were home, I'd take a pic.

    Are you hanging them to dry on one of those spinning drying racks?
    I notice that happens when MH just tosses them on the little shelves on the rack. But when they're hung on the little pegs they dry perfectly clear.

    We don't have hard water, but had a sort of "film" on them. I started soaking in vinegar water before washing, and washing using Dawn with grease remover. This seems to have solved the issue.

    FS (age 5) and FD (age 2) to become AS/AD very soon!

    Here is my system... Some things go on the rack, some go on the mat. I got my mat at target. It is microfiber on one side and mesh on the other.

    @mommabmb I started using vinegar before the dawn last night after reading your post. That has definitely helped, too.

    @maritza707  I'm glad that helped! When I don't have vinegar (I just ran out last night) I have tried lemon juice. It also works, just requires more. It does smell better, though.

    @mommabmb Good to know! It definitely helped, although it's a bit time consuming now with a three step process, lol. Soak in hot water with vinegar, rinse and soak in Dawn with grease remover, rinse and dry completely on special drying may, lol
