I was only told to wake my kids in the hospital. Once I got home, the pedi told me as long as they are having good amount of diapers (and are healthy) not to wake a sleeping baby.
Can I just say that I am terrified of breast feeding?? I know that you aren't an expert right away but I've been reading various books, etc. that my doctor and others have recommended and I couldn't possibly remember all the do's and dont's. It seems so overwhelming... (

It can be overwhelming at first, but it does get better. Basically DO- feed when baby is hungry. DON'T- forget to take care of yourself too. I'm sure you will do well; don't stress too much

I was very scared as well. I'm not going to lie it is tough. But I actually like it. It's kind of hard to describe it just makes me feel closer to him and comforts me.. I actually fall asleep sometimes while feeding him.
DD1 was born a month early weighing 5 lbs. 6 oz. The pedi told us to make sure to wake her every 2 hours until she hit 6 lbs. After that she could wake herself. Granted she woke up every 2 hours her own self for the first 2 months.

After I finish feeding and burping I just let Lilly lay on my chest and if I'm sitting on the bed feeding I will just lay back and I doze off sometimes once she falls asleep. I do however feel incredibly close to her when feeding.
I kept trying to read it, but it wasn't made for mobile and kept going to different pages!!
I did read if your LO is fattening up you don't have to worry about waking for feedings. I hadn't heard that and was wondering when I could stop having to wake him up
To answer your question. Once my kids hit birth weight I won't wake at night for feedings, I'll let them wake me. But during the day I make sure to wake every 2.5-3 hours so hopefully I can get longer stretches overnight.
This is what we've been doing and managed a 3.5 and 4hr stretch last night
For totally random advice that I wish I had thought of earlier, buy nursing tanks in black. Then if you are a leaker like me it will be less obscene if people come over or you leave the house.
Heather grey shows EVERY DROP
And white will be stained yellow.
(:|
I have some lovely white nursing bras from when I nursed DD and they have the sexiest yellow stains in them from when I leaked.
And I will ditto other posters who say it may be tough for a while but it does make you feel super close and bonded with baby. I still remember the feeling of looking down at DD. *sigh* I can't wait for this LO to get here.
