1st Trimester

How long did you wait to tell?

I just found out on Friday (13 DPO) and I'm going tomorrow to do B/W to confirm it per the Dr. on Monday morning.  DH wants to tell everyone on Christmas.  I think it's too soon and wanted to wait a few weeks.  Just curious how long you guys waited.

Re: How long did you wait to tell?

  • I told my Mom and Dad right away because my Mom asks EVERY month if I'm pg and I knew that I wouldn't be able to lie to her. We are telling everyone else at Christmas and I will be 11 weeks. If I were you I would tell my parents but wouldn't tell anyone else yet.

  • We told our parents and sibs the day we got our BFP, and we've been slowly telling close friends since then.  I just figured, I would obviously want my mom to know if something bad happened, and we've only told the friends we would want to talk to if something bad happened.  We're waiting until after we hear the heartbeat (hopefully Jan. 6th!) to tell everyone else.

Congrats and I wish you a H&H nine months!!

  • We're telling our parents on Tuesday.  I'll be 12w3d.  There's no set point when you should or shouldn't tell.  You just have to realize that there's a higher risk of m/c before 12 weeks so make sure that anyone you tell before then is someone that you would be comfortable with knowing if something bad were to happen.

  • We told immediate family the day we found out (about 4 weeks) but waited until I got through the first trimester to tell everyone else.
  • Thanks everyone, I'm not wanting to wait 12 weeks but just a few short days after our BFP seems so quick to me.  DH is so damn excited though.  I'm thinking we'll share with our parents, siblings and my grandmother, on Christmas, if we do anything.

  • We told my siblings and parents yesterday at 5w.  Telling DH's family later this week....as well as a few close friends.  However, I know ppl will start sharing with others once they know - oh well...I have to have a positive outlook on things :-)
  • I'm 5 weeks, and we plan to tell our parents and siblings on Christmas. We would have told them right away, but we thought it would be really neat for them to find out on Christmas. We are going to ask them not to tell anyone else for a few weeks - at least until we have the first ultrasound and the Dr. gives a clean bill of health.

  • We told everyone after we got the blood test result from the doc.  I am not good at keeping secrets and we were so excited.  We also decided that we would want the support from family if anything went wrong.  GL and congrats on your BFP!

  • we told our families asap....i never understood waiting to tell everyone... they will find out eventually
  • Before I got PG I wanted to wait until 12 wks.

I got my BFP at 4 wks and we can only make it to 8 before telling. Actually I already told two friends this week. I'm bad at keeping secrets.?

  • With my first 2 pregnancies, we told the world immediately.  The first one resulted in my perfect daughter, the second one in a miscarriage.  It was very hard when random neighbors (yes- we were confident) would wink and knowingly say "How are you feeling?"  And I'd have to say that I'd lost the baby.  THis time I told my mom immediately b/c I needed support (progesterone VERY low) and DH told his sister for support, but I am enjoying having the baby a secret between ourselves... hell, if I could, I think I'd keep it a secret til after delivery!

  • Congrats on your BFP! ?It's a completely personal decision on when to tell. ?With that said, we told my parents and I told my closest friends about a week after we found out. ?We will tell my siblings at Christmas and my extended family at New Year's (everyone is going to be together). ?DH wants to wait until after we hear the heartbeat (12 weeks) to tell his friends and family.

  • We are waiting until 9 weeks because that is when I have my first OB appt.  I'll be having an ultrasound then and will (hopefully) see the heartbeat.  I sure is hard to keep the secret until then (Jan 5).

  • We are telling our families when we see them for Christmas. I've told a few very close friends already, mostly because I needed to vent about things. I'm planning on announcing it at work mid-January (13 weeks).

  • I'm still waiting =(

But I have had 3 m/c's this year, and my confidence is not that great yet, even though everything with this pregnancy has been going ok.

  • I'll be 11 weeks tomorrow and I have my first ultrasound on Friday.  We'll be telling family and work next week, and closer friends.  Everyone else won't get an announcement, they'll probably just figure it out.  It was really hard not to tell people, especially at first, but it's gotten easier to hold back in the last 2 or 3 weeks.
  • I also found out on Friday, congratulations to you!!

I told my MIL right away (I live with her, so she would know anyway), and I told a few bestest friends last night (again, as soon as I reject a beverage, they would have known, and I see them almost every weekend), and I am telling my parents/siblings on Christmas morning.

Our philosophy is that this is our first time, and if anything went wrong, we would have t tell them for support, so we feel it's okay for us to tell them.

  • Congrats to you. Isn't it a great feeling to know that your pregnant? I love it so far.I am about 6 weeks pregnant.

We were planning on waiting to tell family at Christmas but we told my husband's family first becuase we couldn't wait. I will tell my family when we travel to see them this week for Christmas. I also told my sis and best friend. I think we will wait to tell others after our first ultrasound on Jan 5. I have gone to the doctor to get the pregnancy confirmed and have a meeting with the nurse about pregnancy. What a great journey!

  • we have only told close friends to far, told BIL last night and will tell parents and brothers on christmas and christmas eve. ?we are just telling people we would be able to untell if something were to happen. ?If something were to happen, I would want them to know and want their support
  • We've slowly told family and close friends the last couple weeks, but won't tell the general public until my first trimester screening comes back okay. That's not until 12 weeks which is January 27th!!! UGHHGGHGHGH SO LONG FROM NOW!
  • We told our parents and siblings at 6 weeks, friends around 9 weeks and work around 14 weeks.?

  • We told everyone as we saw them in person!  Starting at 7 weeks and just finishing yesterday!!!!  It was soooo fun to see the excitement!!
  • We waited until about 8 weeks. I had no morning sickness until that point (then it got bad), but I had some major issues with low progesterone, so we didn't want to tell until we were sure that the pregnancy would continue.
  • I told my mom and sister at 4w6d because I was nervous and needed someone to talk to. I told my dad and brothers at 6 weeks. I'll tell in-laws after we hear the heartbeat on the u/s.
  • We told my parents the day after our BFP with both pregnancies.
