Overprotective already??

You may read this and think this girls crazy! But ...I was just wondering if anyone else thinks of this. When your baby is doing quick moves and flips one after another, do you ever worry that they might accidentally wrap the cord around their neck?? If not, what's your strangest fear?

Re: Overprotective already??

  • That she'll decide to just 'fall out'. She's pushing down so hard it feels like that most days.

  • Totally! I always think about that!!! I also worry that he is going to claw open my cervix. Lol irrational fears.
  • I totally know what you mean! I'm going to have a scheduled csection so I shouldn't really be worried but I do wonder if my baby is wrapped up in the cord. She moves a lot.
  • Cord accidents are rare, but yes, they do happen.  Actually, that's one reason why they do EFM during labor:  because that's when a tangled cord is most likely to become a Problem.  The monitor can pick up the drop in heart rate in time for the doctor to intervene.  If the baby's nearly out, doctor might be able to just reach inside and move the cord to a safer spot, if not, c-section.
  • My mom asked me one day if I was bending to pick things up at the waist or with my knees because LO's cord could wrap around his neck if I bent at the waist. I always try to lift with my knees, it's better for you, but of course she freaked me out big time. Luckily I just had an appointment and his heartbeat was just fine and he's wiggling lots and lots, so at least I know he is healthy.

It's scary thinking about these kinds of things!

Within reason, nothing you do physically is going to cause the cord to entangle.  Bending at the waist is uncomfortable in late pregnancy, and might stress your back more than bending at the knees, but it can't hurt the baby.

Yes, I once had an old lady at work yell at me for lifting my hands above my head. She told me the baby would get tangled. It's not like they're a puppet and my moving my arms makes their cord move! I do hope though with all of her flipping around she hasn't gotten herself tied up in the cord.
