LOs sleeping habits

So LO slept great the first week home. In her crib for 3-4 hour stretches and everything! Now she will only sleep on my chest. As soon as I put her down and leave the room she screams and it breaks my heart. I know she's not hungry or needs changed. She just wants her momma. Any tips on how I can sleep too and how to get her back to her crib? I literally haven't slept in 2 days and DH has been working 18 hour days all week because his boss is out sick. I'm desperate and exhausted.

Re: LOs sleeping habits

  • Does she fall asleep in the car? We've found that LO falls asleep in the car quite easily. At 4 am last night I put him in the car and drove around the neighborhood a few times. Once I brought him back in I was able to take him out of the seat and put him in his crib. He slept almost 4 hours.

  • She goes our pretty fast in the car, but I still haven't been cleared to drive and DH is normally at work and when he is at home he's sleeping because of his long hours. Oh, and she HATES her swing
  • Maybe the stroller?  N loves his stroller so although it seems crazy I push him around the house in it sometimes.  He is the same way-- slept great for the first 2-3 weeks in his Pack 'n Play and now won't sleep except on DH or I.  Lately I have been letting him fall asleep on us until he is totally out and then moving him to his PnP.  I wish I wasn't so paranoid about bed-sharing, because it seems like it would be a lot easier.

  • If I lay LO down and he wakes up I keep rocking him. Sometimes it takes an hour but I want him sleeping in his own room so I do whatever it takes. So far so good. Could you try something like that?

  • We have a recliner in her room instead of a glider so I've been sleeping there mostly. I just don't sleep when she's on me because I'm afraid she'll roll out of my arms or off my chest. This morning she was sound asleep on my chest so DH was going to pick her up and lay her in the crib so I could at least shower today and as soon as she hit the crib she screamed until she was back on my chest and she passed out instantly.
  • We have been recliner/chest sleeping most nights, talked with our pediatrician about it yesterday, his recommendation was to giver her a paci, and let her cry for a minute or two but she needs to sleep in her space. Last night she skipped her evening nap and went down about 9-9:30, so at 9:45 we headed up to bed... She was out... Slept until 12:30, did a diaper change and 15-20 minute feeding and she was out until 4.... So I had about 5 hours of sleep in bed... I couldn't get her down after 4, so at 5:20 we came back down to the recliner, and she slept on me from 5:45 until 8, I slept another 1.5 hours from 6:20 until just before 8... So that was a good night... Age took the paci at the midnight feeding and still had it when she woke at 4. She's back out now...
  • I think our LO is going through her three week growth spurt so her sleeping at night is not as good as it had been. We burp her for a LONG time after feedings because she has gas issues. She usually falls asleep as I am doing that and I lay her down in the bassinet next to my bed. If she begins to stir, it is usually enough with her paci and my hand resting on her tummy or legs. Just the weight of my hand upon her makes her feel ok and if not, I will slightly pat or rock her.

I do this same thing!  have to get the burps out because he's super gassy, and will rest my hand over his hands and belly and he usually calms right down.   Though still not great at falling asleep on his own.  He's fidgety and can't calm is arms and legs down

  • We're pretty much in the same boat. I certainly wasn't planning on co sleeping, I'm well aware of the link to SIDS, but it seems like the only way we get any sleep at night. I'm really hoping that I'm not creating a bad habit and when she gets a little older we can get her in her crib
  • Our LO would NOT sleep unless you were holding her.  We were dead set on her not sleeping in our bed, but in something like a rock n play next to the bed.  After a few nights of zero sleep we just had to give in.  She tends to sleep curled up on DH's chest which makes me really nervous but it is the only way to get sleep.  We talked to her doc about it and she said it usually resolves itself within a couple of weeks, it's just the security thing since they were inside babies for so long!
  • I'm way to scared to let her sleep in out bed. So I'm getting about 2 hours of sleep a day and barely functioning. DH was off tonight and goes in late tomorrow so he's on baby duty so I can sleep for a few hours. Hopefully this will pass soon. The recliner isn't as comfy as it used to be. But I do enjoy our snuggling.
