Cloth Diapering

using CD but work wants to throw me a diaper shower

At school here for baby  number 2 the tradition is a diaper shower, I have already ordered and plan on using cloth diapers. I don't want to rude b/c the diapers are super generous but I wonder if I would every use them. Should I try and think about something else the staff could do instead? Or thoses that have used CD did you find a need for disposiables? If so, so I just let the staff do what they would traditional do? TIA

  • A few are nice to have on hand for emergencies ie treating for yeast etc. I wouldn't want tons.

  • My church threw me a diaper shower for DS. I had planned to just keep a few packs of each size and exchange the rest for store credit, but almost everyone wrote who they were from on the package of diapers. Just something to keep in mind.
  • I would just explain that you are using cloth, and while a diaper party is a nice gesture, you would rather pass bc it wouldn't be fair for people to spend money on something you won't use. Maybe they'll think you're SO sweet they'll get you cloth diapers instead.
I agree with this and @jayne1024.  I would definitely let them know your plans to CD.  If they're throwing a shower, they obviously like you enough to respect your choices :)  If I were attending, I'd be annoyed to buy something for nothing (especially disposable dipes)  Just let them know!

This is a great suggestion. The diaper shower I went to the mom got enough diapers to where she literally didn't buy any for the first 8months.

  • We haven't even used the freebies the hospital sent us home with, so I'd definitely not use what a diaper shower would generate. I'd politely decline.

  • If you are worried they will be offended, accept the party and return most of them for credit on stuff you need. I would keep a small package in each size. They are handy in situations like PP said. :)

  • Maybe see if they could throw a clothing shower? You can always find sleepers and outfits in different price ranges.

  • If they're planning on using your registry then include cloth diapers on there. If you already have an Amazon one they have lots of cloth. Or perhaps some of the specific cloth diaper sites have registries.

Otherwise I agree with what everyone else said.
  • Chickypoo, some people don't listen. It's hard to please everyone. Some will be offended if you tell them you don't want diapers and some will be offended if you return them. No win situation, really.

I honestly have never heard anyone ask how their diapers were doing. ;)
