1 week old- lack of sleep- hubby's fainting spell

Hi, I was wondering if any of you can help me out here. My hubby and I just had our little one a week ago, second time around parents here. It's been wonderful and we are really happy. As with any normal newborn we have been lacking proper sleep at night. My hubby has been stubbornly not taking any breaks and although I've been loving his help around the house and taking care of our 5yr old (driving her to school) etc etc ...I don't know how to tell him to slow down! He has been drinking energy drinks excessively and last night I think was just so scary, I cried. Last night while he went to the bathroom, I heard a crash and the bathroom door violently open. My 6ft hubby was on the floor, he was sweating and cold to the touch. He was conscious but disoriented. It seemed as if he passed out for a second. After a few minutes of talking to him and him slowly answering my questions and drinking water, he was able to get up and seemed fine. This has never happened before and was sooo scary, I felt the need to ask the bump community for perspective. Def calling the doc, but has anyone (moms or dads) experienced dizzy/fainting spells from lack of sleep?

  • His mom is here helping out so we are really thankful for that, but he's not taking any breaks regardless. He's also in grad school, also working full time at a stressful job, I don't know how to slow him down. Ugh.

  • I just googled energy drinks and fainting....so scary!!! I didn't put those two together. I knew energy drinks are not good, but I didn't know there's research backing up all these dangerous side effects. Thanks gals- I'm going to have a talk with him.
  • All I can think is what if he had been holding lo at the time?? I hope you do get a good talkwith him asap. He needs to take care of hhimself and I'm glad you looked up info about energy drinks. They aren't healthy. And making sure enough water food and rest is essential for you both.
Best of luck and hope he is doing better!!

  • This happened to my DH also and he actually passed out at our A/S right after the tech announced we were having a boy. It was super scary but DH will be forever teased for it. His was also due to lack of sleep and probably a few too many energy drinks.
