I know my singing voice sucks

O won't listen to me sing...  whatsoever.  I know I've mentioned it before, but do you guys know how much it sucks to rely on electronics to sing to your kid?

He won't even let me say the alphabet with him.  Not Jingle Bells, No Itsy Bitsy Spider...  Not only does it kinda hurt my feelings, but I feel like there's a human connection that's lost here.  I gave him the tablet with the letters and numbers apps because I couldn't get to E of the alphabet without him FULL ON SCREAMING at me.  I tried singing with the lady on the alphabet app or with the singers for wheels on the bus...  No dice!

Thoughts on this?  I know this has to be one of the quirkiest issues we've probably discussed.

Re: I know my singing voice sucks

  • I thought my kid was the only weirdo who screams when someone tries to sing to her.  It's really rare that she'll invite me to sing along if she's already singing.  But god forbid I start singing on my own, she totally flips out.

On the flip side, the baby LOVES when I sing.  So either the baby is fussing and M is happy, or I'm singing and the baby is happy, but M is screaming at me to stop.  It's awesome.

  • Lincoln demands we sing and turn off the radio whenever we're in the car. :(

  • Does he like to play with musical instruments?  M likes to hand out instruments and pretend we're all a band, and I told her that singing is part of making music.  We take turns handing a microphone back and forth and just saying "La la la la la" into it, and sometimes she'll let me sing a song if I use the mic.

  • That's sad/funny! I don't have any advice.... But I can say that the boys do the same thing to DH. Liam told him that I needed to teach him how to sing (lol!!).

    Aww that sucks!

Joey won't let DH sing.  He's the most tone deaf man on the face of the planet.  Joey just starts yelling,  "No!  No Da!  NOooooooo!  Maaaaaaaaaaaaaa!" when he tries.  DH thinks it's funny though.

My grandma always used to sing us to sleep.  She couldn't carry a tune.  She told my cousin, who was 4 or 5 at the time she couldn't sing one night because she had laryngitis.  He said "Grandma, I'm sorry you have the gitis but I'm glad you can't sing!" and went to bed lol
Joey sounds hilarious.  Like, beyond toddler funny.

Also, how on earth is that little girl already over a month old???  How are you guys adjusting?  She's been healthy since her NICU stay, right?
It's all been fine.  A little stressful, but overall, nothing outside the realm of what to expect when you have 3 kids under the age of 5.

She's been totally healthy; Hank and Otis and Jay tried to sabotage us with a stomach virus last week, but her and I held our own!!

Gotta love trying to please everyone in a multiple kid household!! ;)

I think this could work. I will have to make a play mic and give it a shot! thanks!
