Pregnant after 35

Somewhat of a vent

Hello ladies. I am going to say this post makes me feel old. I would really like to know when the F***bomb became acceptable on the bump. I have been part of the bump for quite some time now (since 08) and I feel like my bomb and other boards constantly have that word among others. Ladies. What other sites do you frequent? I understand this is a public forum but still.... Thanks for letting me vent.

  • I do not go to other sites... saying and or writing fuck doesn't make me young it makes me me... Best Wishes!

  • Are we on the same birth month board cause I think so (July 2014)? Anyway, while I would not say Tb is perfect, it is my preferred baby forum; while I stay out of most drama, I can handle everyone being too nice all the time. So for me, the good outweighs the bad. I don't normally drop the F-bomb in posts but that is because it is just NMS. Also it is still early and our group will definitely get smaller, but you're not new here so you probably already know that. Sorry I guess I do not have a real answer to your question but I can at least say that maybe i have noticed what you are referring to.

  • With The Bump, I think the level of civility (or incivility) really depends on the board.  We over-35ers are pretty polite, but I have noticed a higher level of rudeness and lack of class on some boards than I remember when I was last pregnant in 2010.  As a result, I think I've been posting more on the purely informational boards (baby gear, etc).  But that's also an aspect of being a second-time mom and not needing so much emotional support related to the newness of pregnancy.
  • @cookieinva Yes we are on the same BMB. Like I said I have been part of the bump for quite some time. But this is the first time that I've noticed the F bomb so much I don't know why but it does surprise me. I guess you're right is probably just a generational difference.

  • It seems that since the last platform upgrade that whatever filter was preventing a lot of it, went to the wayside. Before that, I recall seeing a lot of it "symbol-ed" out.

I haven't been on the BMB's since 2008 when The Nest started The Bump. Well, I take that back; I have lurked a smidge and it doesn't seem like it's changed one bit.

Everyone has their right to say what they want, I guess, within TOS, but I don't care for a lot of the snark and downright vulgarity. So I just put those people on ignore and move on. I have my hands full in real life, so the 15 minutes or so I get to unwind and visit on here I don't waste on rude people. I save my referee energy for my own tribe of misfits ;)

I typically only post on this board or Multiples. I've never lurked forums on other sites.

  • It takes a lot to shock me but the level of nastiness that goes on on some of the other boards is very disappointing and sad. Especially from women, many of whom are about to bring a child into this world if they haven't already. I'm not bothered by swearing unless it's directed at someone in a personal way/name calling but some people are going too far. I choose to stay around the Over 35 board just so I don't spend an hour shaking my head while reading unnecessary, rude and childish comments. No doubt it's a generation/maturity thing.

  • I have recently decided to avoid posting on my birth month board due to the catty, immature and downright rude behavior of many of the members. I agree with PP that I stick with this board and some other topic specific boards. Maybe it is the age difference (based on a poll on my BM board I was one of the oldest there) but it shocks me as well the behavior of women about to have children and even more so those that are already mothers. Some posts that I read really make me pray for the future generations.

  • I think it's because the site no longer censors those words. I think people are typing what they say, since now we can.

It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
  • I haven't noticed that happening but then again I pretty much only participate in posts on my BMB that are about about dogs or food :)

  • To me it helps to think of the internet like TV ... just ignore/change the channel if people are being ridiculous.  It's just not worth getting sucked into drama or taking things really personally here on fb or anywhere else really, though at the same time it is important to stick to your own standards for how you will choose to communicate with people and present yourself and not sink down to the lowest common denominator.   This board seems maybe a bit more like PBS or NPR (and I mean that in the nicest way ... I was raised only being allowed to watch PBS and I have NPR on most times when I'm by myself) while the BMBs are maybe more FOX or almost any commercial channel of daytime TV or AM talk radio.  Some very good threads/shows, some pure fluff entertainment, and some stuff that's just best to tune away from.  I'm not sure what channel to compare the lovely PGAL board to - probably a good cable channel but I don't have cable.

  • I completely agree.  The level of overall rudeness has increased significantly since I was on TB for my 1st LO 2+ years ago.  I'm amazed at the general lack of kindness some people show on these boards.  I'm glad this board is one of the more friendly options.
