Dreaded Spotting

Hi ladies yesterday I went for an ultra sound and we saw the babies heart beat (I am 6 weeks 3 days). Last night I started spotting brown discharge and have been spotting today too. It hasn't been too bad but I have experienced a miscarriage around this time in my pregnancy before and I am just so nervous. Has anyone had similar stories? Please share if you can. Thank you.

  • Did you have a transvaginal? I can't say for sure obviously, but sounds like it could be related to the u/s. Your cervix is very sensitive and could bleed from the probe. It happened with my first u/s and lightly with my second as well. Good luck and I'll keep you in my thoughts.
  • I had a pap and ultrasound on Monday. I had some brown spotting as well after. (This was after an ER visit Saturday for bleeding.) The spotting stopped for me by Tuesday. I'm sure it's fine!
  • I did have a transvaginal ultrasound. Ladies, I can't tell you how much it means to me that you responded. I am on another "birth club" and I'm going to delete the app cause the women are so mean to each other and no one really gives any real advice/ stories so I just wanted to say thank you again. I will keep you posted on how things go and thanks again. Big Hugs!!
  • Thumbs up :) I agree with the advice given. T&P
  • Hello Lady,

I had this exact same thing happen to me for about a week around my 6th week of pregnancy.  It started after my husband and I had relations.  I went to the ER and had tests, a beta test and an ultrasound.  Both revealed my pregnancy was progressing as it should at that time.  Upon follow up with my OB I had a TV ultrasound--heartbeat was registered at 116bpm.  I was so relieved but continued to spot brownish discharge for about 3 or 4 more days.

Long story short, the spotting has stopped.  I have not had the energy or mind to have relations with my husband and I haven't been probed or prodded by a dr.  Now I am not an expert, only giving you what I have experienced but it sounds to me like you have maybe just irritated your cervix.  If you rest a few days I am sure the spotting will stop just like mine did.

    Hugs.

  • Light and brown spotting, especially after an ultrasound, seems like nothing to worry about. Easier said than done, I know.

Keep us updated. And yes, we're pretty cool around here.

  • Popping in from June...I had this exact thing happen to me at 6 weeks 4 days. I spotted on and off for almost 4 days and even had one small red spot the last day. I have had 3 scans since then, including my 12 weeks scan on Monday and all is well! My doctor couldn't find a reason, but let me know that sometimes there is blood just kind of tucked away up there and when things start to expand and move around it can come loose. FX for you!

  • I had a pelvic exam and my midwife was so gentle but managed to break a capillary. She said I was to expect a little brown spotting the next day. The Transvaginal ultrasounds are more abrasive to the cervix than a pelvic exam because they're looking for baby and examining ovaries, doing lots of probing and it's likely they broke several capillaries. The brown is old blood and if you have pink it's probably a tinged vessel that is taking a little more time to close or reopened due to irritation. I always get nervous when someone says "call your dr" but no one can ease your mind better than a professional. Pgal brain is a scary thing, I know this t
  • Oops hit post by accident. As I was saying pgal brain is the worst. I know this to be true!
  • Don't worry! I have been spotting brown for over a week now. They did an ultrasound and the baby is fine. My dr said it's totally normal to spot during this time (I'm 6w4d) as the baby implants further into your uterus. As long as the spotting is brown you are fine.
  • I had brown spotting with this pregnancy and it turned out to be nothing. It may be the same for you.
  • Probably from ultrasound! This happened it me and I also freaked out and called my OB. She explained very common after a trans vaginal u/s!!

Really? And I thought The Bump was the snarkiest around. ;) Agree with PPs and that it's probably just from the exam/US. :)
