An introduction & a question...

Hi, all!  I just learned from my June 2014 board that there is a multiples board!  I don't really browse the site a whole lot, so I was completely oblivious to the fact that this even existed, but I'm glad it does!

A little about me... I'm about 13 weeks along and just this Tuesday learned that my twins are mono/di twins!  I have one other child, a 9 year old son from my first marriage and these twins are the first with my new husband.  First kids of his at all, so it's definitely an exciting and sometimes scary time! 

My question... Tuesday they did the first trimester screening and my results back today with a 1 in 306 chance of Downs.  The doctor told me that 1 in 311 was considered a "normal" reading, so mine was "minimally abnormal".  Even still, being pregnant and hearing anything other than, "everything is perfect!" can be a pretty scary experience.  So, my question... have any of you other ladies carrying multiples experienced similar results?  He did opt to have me do the T21 test today as a precaution, so I'll be anxiously awaiting those results!

    Yep, this^.  The bloodwork part of the screen basically means nothing because all they can do is take the number they get and divide it by 2.  Buuuut there's no way of telling that each baby is contributing 50% to that number, and most likely that is not the case.  Baby A could be contributing 70% and Baby B could be contributing 30%, etc.

    Personally, I wouldn't worry about that number. I met with a genetic counselor last week... Have you done that? It was very informative. I am having a quad screen done next week. Also, it varies by your age, so was that chance based on your specific age? That may change things. My MFM told me that with a singleton, there is an 80 % accuracy of screening for downs and with twins it's only a 60-70%. You can always do additional testing if you are concerned. An amino is really the only way to know for sure.
