Things you never thought you'd use

So along with all the "wonderful" advice I got about raising my daughter, I also got some weird gifts that I never thought I'd use. This week I developed a cough and every time I shushed C I would cough. It would wake her up and we'd have to start all over. Then I remembered my mil gave me a baby shusher machine. I never thought I'd use it and now it's an every day thing. I can put my lo down drowsy, turn it on, and out she goes. Bonus: my throat doesn't go dry from 10 minutes of shushing.

Anyone else using a gift they rolled their eyes at in the beginning?

A bassinet! It got us through that first month- it had wheels and we have hardwood floors!

Also, a cheap bottle set- it ended up working perfect with my pump set for extra storage!

10 different kinda of swaddles and bottles... I wish we would have just bought one or two, seen if they worked and gone from there. What a waste.

ETA: oops, I read this as things you DIDN'T need..

The bouncy seat. I had a swing, and didn't think I'd need to use the bouncy seat. But I love that damn thing.

A ton of receiving blankets. Lo pukes so much the blankets are better then the burp clothes and you can flip and rotate them so they are not so gross

This!!!! Thought if never use it and it's been a life saver. We slso use burp cloths a lot, the larger ones. Seems like we can't have enough.

i have never used the baby powder yet either. I'll probably use that when it's hot and sticky out.

I never thought I would use a rocker (rnp). Gives my arms a break! although I don't think he likes it all that much anymore. We set up the jumper last night. Didn't think I was going to use that either, but he's been jumping up and down in our arms, so we got it.

"Dress style" PJs for DS. It just seemed strange to put him in this thing that basically looks like a dress, but OMG, that's all he wears to bed now. No buttons or zippers to undo during those middle of the night diaper changes. I want 10 more pairs but can't seem to find them in any of the baby stores.

Disposable diapers. He didn't fit into my CDs for the first 3 weeks, though. Plus people gave us so many at the shower we still haven't used them all up yet.

I bought a used changing table from Craigslist that I thought would be nice to have but that I'd probably just do diaper changes on the floor most times. Nope...use it every single time!

Gripe water
white noise baby app on phone (even the dcp uses it now)
crib wedge. S was has severe AR and had breathing issues before her first surgery. We even bought more wedges for the bassinet and changing pad.

Things I thought I would use but haven't:
bottle sanitzer
bottle warmer (since I can't BF it just mix her formula as needed)
upteen gillion bfing products (I'm holding onto all of these in the hopes that I'll be able to BF baby #2)

Changing table. Everyone said that I would never walk up and down stairs to change the diaper but I actually do. And she likes looking at her chevron stripped curtains while I change her on it. Plus it's a good height for me so I give her massages after her bath while on it.

Hands Free Pumping Bra... I laughed so hard with another co worker about this when I was pregnant. Now that I pump three times a day a work.. that thing is my best friend! Hilarious how my my mindset changed!

Changing table. My partner kept telling me it was a waste of money. Nope..I use it and when he was very colicy sometimes putting him down on the changing table so he could stare at the wood panel would calm him down. That was a huge boon to m sanity!

Mesh crib bumper. I was horribly anti-bumper, knew the mesh ones existed but thought why bother. Then my son started waking up from crib naps by rolling over and getting his arm jammed in the slats. Went out and bought one the next day, first time I've felt something was important enough to run out and buy.

I wasn't sure we needed a glider for the nursery (rather than a regular arm chair that we already have), especially since many of them are so expensive. My mom gave me the Dutalier glider that she got used from a friend and when she had my brother (who is now 21) so I could try it out. I adore it - it's the most comfortable place to nurse; I read to LO in it; I rock her to sleep for naps in it; and I love that it has some history to go along with it. Definite win.

I didn't end up using the million swaddle blankets/products we got because she has hated swaddling from the start and sleeps great without it. Oh well...

The things we use daily...Aden and anais swaddle blankets, burp cloths, nuk pacifers, angel dear napping blanket (dd is addicted to her pink giraffe), RnP, and changing area. Things I didn't need....nipple cream (never got sore for some reason...) and swing and bouncy seat ....dd hates both.
