The pain continues day 6

It's been 6 days since I had my vbac and I have many stitches a 2nd close to a 3rd degree tear. The pain has been so bad yesterday and today so much worse than the days before. Is this normal?? I hate to take the pain meds they make me pass out and I just want to be back to normal. I think I had such high hopes for this recovery as opposed to my c-section!

Re: The pain continues day 6

  • I would find a pain med that works for you. I refuse narcotics but am a big fan of anti-inflammatories. I had a 4th degree tear with DD; recovery was relatively painless by taking ibuprofen as prescribed and following all directions, witch hazel, sitz baths, etc. I started weaning these at 1 week and stopped by 2 weeks. I have a 2nd degree tear with DS and at 6 days am in more pain than with the 4th degree because I am weaning myself off the meds sooner.

  • Yes you need pain meds at this point. I was also surprised by how much pain I had after my VBAC but the good news is that I was 95% better by two weeks instead of 6 weeks with my c/s. Dont overdo it, use the medicine, sitz bath, witch hazel and ice pack of necessary. I felt much worse the days I walked too much or carried my toddler. It will get better very soon so take it easy right now!

  • It's totally normal for the pain to get worse before it gets better. That actually worried me too. I only had a 1st degree tear and 2 stitches and it took me close to 9 weeks to fully heal and be pain free, and I used the witch hazel pads, etc. as told. Everyone's recovery time is different, but I hope you get better soon!

  • I'm going on three weeks tomorrow and I still have pain. No worries :) I, too, have a 2nd degree tear, close to 3rd.
  • I had a 2nd degree tear and didn't stop prescription pain meds until 10 days pp. once I hit the 2 week mark I felt so much better and by 4 weeks felt just about normal. Rest as much as possible and use the tucks pads!
