PPD

I know they say it can hit anytime in the first year. I finally went to see my doctor today and got diagnosed with PPD, it's mild she said but when I wasn't excited for Christmas it had my mom worried. Along with some other signs. It was hard to go in and admit it, I usually hide my feelings. But I am looking forward to feeling better and enjoying LO's first Christmas.

Do we have a PPD check in on this board? I know there has been a few of us that have this.

Re: PPD

  • Yes the doctor started me on some stuff to help and gave me some resources/support groups. But this board is so supportive.

  • I started meds in early July (3 months postpartum) and I'm still on them.  A friend started on them about the same time and stopped hers already.  I feel like I could *maybe* be ok without them but am thinking I'll stay on AT LEAST until the holidays are over and maybe longer.  I'm not in a rush.

BTW, it took about 2.5 weeks until I started feeling better, so don't panic if it doesn't happen tomorrow.

Good for you for speaking up.  I also hide my feelings and it was like pulling fingernails to talk to my doctor but I decided that M needs a mom who's at her best and I was FAR from it.

  • This is the third time in my life that I've been on antidepressants. Each time, I've only been on them for about 6-8 months before being ready to wean off. And good for you for getting help! I've been on Zoloft for a month now and feel a million times better. Hang in there!

  • Thanks Jayro! I am glad you are feeling better too. I felt better after leaving the doctors office knowing I had what I needed to feel better. Nobody wants to feel that way ever but especially during your LOs first Christmas.

  • Good for you! I started Paxil cr a month ago and it took about 3 weeks to start feeling "normal" again. We are all here for you!
