Another name poll: Are these too matchy match?

We are having identical twin boys. We don't like a lot of boy names (girl names are way more fun!), but we do like the names Nathan and Ethan. I'm really not into cutesy, matchy match names, but I do really like both these names. Do they sound too similar? We would likely use the NN "Nate" for Nathan.

Also, DD's name is Adalyn, so it would be Nathan, Ethan, and Adalyn. I was totally against using these names together at first, but it's sort of growing on me. Will I or they be made fun of for "matching" names?

  • I don't like matchy matchy names either, but I actually really like these together. It's not like you're going for Brayden, Jayden, and Aiden (I'd judge you a little for that).

  • I like it! I think they have a Good flow but don't exactly rhyme.

  • I think they're cute and if you'll call him Nate then you shouldn't have a problem with them mishearing whoever you've called for, yelled at, whatever :)
  • I really love both of these names...but they are really really similar. A little too matchy matchy to me. What about Nathan & Evan?

  • They're a little matchy for my taste. But I'm on the severe side of NO MATCHY haha :) I kind of like when twins have very different sounding names but in the same ballpark (like I can't stand when twin girls have one super girly name and one androgynous name). I really love the name Ethan! That was on my list for boys, and I think it sounds good with Andrew. Travis is our #1 right now though. I like your style!

  • Especially if you call him Nate, I think it's cute. Nate, Ethan and Adalyn sound really good together.

  • I think it's fine if you're going to call him Nate. My twin brothers are Nathan and Nicholas, even though my parents didn't want matchy names either. I like your combo.

  • I like it. I had two brothers in my class room with the same names Nathan and Ethan. They were the sweetest boys, not twins but born a year apart. I like the names!
  • I actually really like those. I think they sound great!
  • They are close but at the same time not. Slightly different eras of popularity. I think he more I think about the weirder it's going to sound so I'm trying not to over think it. Both good names. I might keep you mind open to others but if not, Nathan and Ethan are fine together. My fav out of the two is Ethan.

  • I like them together! It's not like you're doing a "Nicki" and "Vicki" type of deal. I say go for it!
  • I voted above, but wanted to say that I agree they are similar without being super matchy. I think they flow well together, especially with DD's name.

It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
  • I love that you put "Just want to see results" as an option. More polls need that. For the record, I didn't select it as my vote but just think it was super smrt!

  • I think they sound good, especially if you end up calling Nathan "Nate."

  • I usually stray from matchy-matchy names as well, but I think this is a great sibset.  Not too close in my opinion!

  • Thanks for your thoughts, ladies. Have to work on convincing DH and decide if I can live with a portion of people thinking it's lame. I'm not usually one to care what people think, but I also totally see myself making fun of someone for picking cutesy, matchy names so... Hmmm. :)
  • I don't see any reason they'd be made fun of. The problem I see is that they are too close in sound. One day you may yell out Nathan and Ethan will think you called him or vis versa. I have always liked the idea of twins having the same starting letter never known anyone to try to give them names that rhyme or sound alike.
  • I like all names!

I think they're fine. Especially if you are going to use Nate anyway.

  • I Just think they sound too matchy. Not in a judgey too-cutesy way, but a logistical way. If you call "Ethan" from across the house, are they going to wonder who you're really calling? It's probably fine 99% of the time if you call Nathan Nate, except when he's in trouble and the full name comes out! Haha. Is Nathaniel a possibility instead?
