To all of you with gallbladder issues-past and present.

How long did you wait after delivery to get yours removed? I realize some of us just had our first baby, but maybe some of the STM's have some experience with this? My dr said I don't need to wait. (My LO is 3 weeks) and he wants to do it this Monday. I'm basically done with pp bleeding and I had an all natural delivery with no tears. I have gallstones so they want to remove it sooner than later.
Any advice? How's the recovery? How much help would I need with LO? I have never had any type of surgery before so this is a whole new ball game for me!
Thanks! :)

  • I had my gallbladder removed last year and the surgery was not too bad at all.  It was outpatient and when I first arrived home and the next day were the worst of it.  You will def. need help those days.  I got home and got right in bed. My pain was very bearable with meds after two days and was good to go after 4-5 days.

  • I had my gallbladder out a week after having my little one which was about 10 days ago. I was an emotional wreck due to my hormones and didn't want to leave m LO even with my mother and fiancé watching her! But the surgery was not bad at all! As first person said the first and second days were the worst and I needed a lot of help to rest up and heal but the next days got easier. And now I'm ready to go back to what I was doing before! Good luck with surgery!!
  • My Dr. Told me to wait till my pp bleeding slowed down. My LO is 5 weeks now so they scheduled me for the 20th of this month. That's just because of scheduling though..I could have had it done today if they had an opening. I'm still debating if I will have it done now. I haven't had any attacks for a while now but I know they said it still needs to be done. I've heard the worst part of the recovery is the pain from the air that's left inside of you..not sure how true for everyone that is.
