February 2014 Moms

30 w measuring 33 w.

Omg I am starting to think I will give birth to a huge 9 pounds baby, I really want to have a vaginal birth but now I am getting freaked out thinking about if I'll need a c-sec and I gained 10 pounds since last month. Ahhh I want ice cream!

Re: 30 w measuring 33 w.

  • My pounds have been packing on the last couple weeks. The first few months I was losing or keeping steady and now I'm 28 weeks an I've gained about 20 lbs :/ and I've been craving brownie batter lol

10 pounds in a month is something to be concerned about.

Other than that- don't worry about measurements. They're not that accurate, even through ultrasound. My friend was told she was going to have a 10+ pound baby... Delivered the next day a beautiful 8.5lb girl.

  • What did you doctor say about the weight gain and the measurement?

  • That was my fundal height... I am assuming she will be a big baby because of how much weight I gained so far, I've gained 45 pounds and all my family was like that, starting with my mom and my sisters they all gained over 50lbs. Doc its not concern about my weight she just said at the end its when usually you gain the most.
  • Fundal height is not a big deal. I am measuring 4 weeks ahead. I also have growth u/s because of GD, and LO is measuring in the 50th percentile. Perfectly normal. Also, even the growth u/s aren't 100% accurate.

This baby could take after my side of the family (notorious for 10lb+ babies), or my H's side (tiny, 6lb full term babies). Never know... Measurements are just a 'best guess'

  • I am in a similar situation:
This week I was 28w4d and had a fundal height measuring 33w.
Dr. scheduled an u/s to check it out. It appears that there are a million reasons for it: excessive fluids, big baby, GD, wrong due dates, just the way I am... She didn't seem too concerned until we have more information.
  • My office partner's BFF delivered 9lbs3oz this morning, without drugs - adorable little chubby baby girl - all healthy and pink :-)

Makes me think this is totally doable!

Your weight gain has nothing to do with the size of your baby.
This.  And fundal height is related to the baby's size but not a perfect indicator.  It is a function of the baby's size, your size, the amount of amniotic fluid, the baby's position in your uterus, and the accuracy at which the doctor/nurse measures (it's easy to be off 1-2 cm)

  • Don't stress. Our bodies were made to do this and if you have trouble, you and your doctor will make plans to keep you and baby safe. Deep breath, worry is payment on a debt not yet owed.
I hope to create a real siggy but first I need some sleep!

    Mom to Lily and Colin!

Of course it's doable! Women have babies that size all the time. DD was 9lbs1oz. It only took 20ish minutes of pushing and I only needed two stitches. No biggie.

This! My SiL gained 15lbs had a 9lb 9oz baby and it took her about the same 20 min to push. Our body's have amazing capabilities!

Your weight gain has nothing to do with the size of your baby.
This.  Lots of women gain 50+lbs and have 7-8lb babies. Your weight gain isn't an indication of baby's size and fundal height can be influenced by far more than just baby's size too on top of being inexact.

I definitely wouldn't start stressing about a 10lb baby at this point, and plenty of women deliver 10lb babies without a hitch so even if LO is larger than average it doesn't mean you can't deliver.

  • Like PPs said, there's not much correlation between your weight gain, the size of the baby, and whether or not you can have a vaginal birth.

  • I measured 8w ahead with my last twin pregnancy. I delivered at 35w and combined they were 10lbs 10oz so 3 else ahead I wouldn't worry about a huge baby. Plus babies position can make you measure bigger.

I'm measuring 6w ahead this time and at 27w their combined weight is 5lbs 8ozs.

Also if your OB isn't worried about your weight I wouldn't worry either. I'd just be cautious about not over eating. If you are eating healthy/like normal you should be fine.
