Call the Midwife

Has anyone else seen this amazing show? I am almost done with the second season on Netflix - I get up early before work just to fit an episode in each day. I love everything about it, and seeing it from the "pregnant perspective" makes it even better. Thank goodness for modern medicine!

Re: Call the Midwife

  • I finished this in four days! I loved it! I am also glad we have the technology we have today!

  • I'm just finishing up the first season and love it, too! Now I'm doubly excited for the next season.

The audiobook was very good; I'm definitely going to listen to the next two books (Shadows of the Workhouse and Farewell to the East End).

  • @Jbelle - I was going to ask for the books for Christmas. My commute is 4 minutes so I don't know when I would listen to them but I also don't know when I would read lol! Do you listen to the audio books strictly in the car or do you get use at any other time?

@craftiemommie: my commute (~30 each way) is a big chunk of my listening time, but I also listen while doing yard work, housework, and miscellaneous activities (baking pies on Thanksgiving, during my 1 hour glucose test--and will be again during my 3 hour, blurgh!).

I put audiobooks onto my smart phone, so that I have them with me all the time (I subscribe to audible, but previously, I digitized CDs from the library). I use speakers and headphones at times, but not always. Walking from my car into work, for instance, I will just hold the phone speaker up to my ear. I'm sure I look ridiculous, but if it's a good book, 3 more minute of listening is precious, but too short of a time to want to mess with headphones.

If a book is really good, you'll know by my clean kitchen!

ETA: you can probably get Call the Midwife free by signing up for an Audible trial membership (link) to give audiobooks a test run before getting any more audiobooks.

  • I love that series! It will be interesting to watch now that I'm high-risk and thinking about how things would have been so different back then!
  • Ahhhhh! I love that show so much! I watched the first season before I was pregnant and then watched it again when the second one came out on Netflix. Amazing show to watch while pregnant (we are so lucky for modern medicine!)...but oh, the tears! Like, every single episode!

I also love audio books! I put them on my ipod and listen all the time. It is the only way I can motivate myself to do housework! I will definitely have to get those books.
  • Oh my god, I loooooove this show!  My husband was out of town one weekend, and my Mom had recommended it and I figured it was pretty much everything he did not want to see (English, period drama, childbirth), so I watched both seasons over the course of two days.  The best!
