Stocking up for postpartum

Since I am moving in a week and a half (hopefully), I have some big shopping trips ahead of me for regular household items.  I am going to go ahead and add in some of the postpartum care needs so I have those just in case I go into labor early.  I also want to make sure I have any random house hold stuff since I won't be wanting to make any Target runs for a few weeks.  Anyone doing something similar?  What am I missing?  Come on, where are my list loving ladies?

Dermoplast
Heavy duty pads
Witch Hazel
Nipple pads
NB diapers
Shampoo and conditioner
Hand soap
Antibacterial gel
Toilet paper
Paper towels
Laundry soap
Dish soap

Cat food

  • Ibuprofen
    Acetaminophen

If you're a coffee drinker, stock up on your coffee supplies - your K-Cups, sugar, half & half, syrups, whatever.

If you're a drinker, send DH into the liquor store to get your stuff.. or do it yourself if you don't care about the judgmental stares.

I thought I was going to want to bunker down in the house for weeks, but I was dying to get out. I kept finding excuses to go to Target with a newborn. "We need.. um.. thank you cards! And a lint remover!"

I did that too, but I had LOTS of stitches and I remember getting into the store and being miserable walking.  I am going to try to take it easier this time.  Plus I will have a toddler in tow this go around which I imagine will make it even more difficult to get out of the house easily!

Ouch! Good point! I'm sorry your recovery was rough. I hope this time it's a lot smoother! But that totally makes sense, then. :)

And I might be in your boat, too. I'm dreading entering the world of 2U2. :)

  • I did a toiletry check and bought new contact solution and toothpaste to last through February. Of course, I also live an hour from the nearest drug store or Target. Sometimes Amazon Prime makes more sense for me.

  • LOTS of great ideas!  I don't have anything to add but something to keep in mind:  I bought witch hazel pads and breast pads for DD and wish i had just saved my money.  The hospital gave me plenty of witch hazel pad i never even opened the ones i purchased.  I ended up throwing them away because i knew they would dry out before i had another baby and would need them again.  I nursed for 9 months w/ DD and my boobs just didn't leak.  They did a tiny bit at the beginning when my milk supply came in and regulated, but i had purchased like a carton or 3 box with 50 or 100 in each box from amazon 'because they were cheaper' (pfft), so needless to say, i have pads coming out my ears.  Should have stuck with 1 box.  So i would buy small quantities of these items or else keep your receipts so you can return them if you want to.

  • FWIW, my witch hazel pads from DS' birth three years ago are still alive and well.

I will also add lots of fluids of your choice if you are BFing. I was ALWAYS thirsty those first few weeks. Also, I would get hungry at te drop of a hat, so lots if convenient snacks.
  • Paper plates and plastic cups. I know it seems like a huge waste, but the last thing I wanted to worry about was if my kitchen was clean (I almost obsess over my kitchen). I knew I'd never get around to dishes and DH was doing so much other stuff and didn't understand. And it's not like we used them exclusively for 6 months, either.

  • Make sure the Dermoplast is the blue bottle!!!!!! Only pain relief and NOT antiseptic. I made that mistake last time. My lady parts are still mad at me and it's been 7 years.

Dang it!  I should have saved mine then!  I'll have to keep that in mind this time around

  • Bottled water! We typically just get filtered water from our fridge, but I plan on stashing bottles of water around the places in the house where I plan to nurse, so that they are always near by.

  • I couldn't wait to get out post labor and actually went to target (friend drove me) and I took around in the handicap cart and drove all over the store. Did you get nursing tops? Tissues?!! I cried a lot the first week and went through 3 boxes.
  • Freezer dinners? Individual serving sized type things, like lasagna, mac n cheese, fettuccine, etc. just so you can pop something in the microwave at 2 am when you're starving?
  • I just saw this list and thought it was pretty helpful:
