Advice please. Friend with gestational diabetes

My birthday's on Monday, and my plan had been to bring cupcakes to work from this bakery that are amazing. I have a good friend/co-worker who just found out today she has gestational diabetes and she's really really upset about it and stressing over her diet. So now I'm rethinking the cupcakes. What would you do:

1. Just bring in the damn cupcakes, you're over thinking this.

2. Bring in the cupcakes, but also another healthier snack too (that's fine, but I was hoping to keep this simple, and the cupcakes are pretty pricey. But I would do it if it were the best option)

3. Scrap the cupcakes altogether and opt for some healthier options.

If you pick 2 or 3, please suggest some GD-friendly snacks! Thanks girls.

Does the cupcake place have healthier alternative? Well, I don't know if she'd like to be the odd person out though.

That's hard, cupcakes are yummy and it's your bday. I'd bring them.

    First, early happy birthday. :)

IMO, it's between 1 and 2. I had diet-controlled GD twice and, if someone was celebrating their birthday, I wouldn't have expected them to bring something special in just for me. If they had, I would consider it thoughtful but that's just me.

Either way, I would eat the cupcake even with having GD. One cupcake isn't a huge deal, but if she's struggling and stressed out she may not realize that yet. First time GD can be pretty scary when you don't know what's going on or what to do.

For GD-friendly ideas, Breyers makes a pretty good line of low carb ice creams and novelty treats. Their chocolate covered vanilla ice cream bar has 5g net carbs, easily within the snack allowance of 15g. It's a small splurge and may make her feel good having something "normal" while she adjusts to the diet.
