DD not sleeping at night

DD is 6 months. Since about 3 months she wakes 3-4 times a night. I have a difficult time letting her cio. Tryed it once and I hated it. She sleeps in her rock and play still. We tried transitioning to the crib but that didnt go well. She likes the "cuddle" effect the rock and play has as well as being at an angle. We try to let her self sooth for naps (or at least the husband does) but she screams 10-15 min until we pick her up or i can bear hearing her cry like that any more. Im looking for suggestions to help her sleep better at night and possible transition her to her crib. People say I am spoiling her by not letting her cio but I just dont do well with that. Do you ladies have any suggestions or do you think its time to put my big girl pants on and let her cry herself to sleep.

Try reading Ferber. It does involve crying, but you can check in on them. It might make it more bearable. People on the bump are very anti CIO, but in one week, your baby will be sleeping much better if you stick to it. It's up to you....one week or less of crying and a baby who can self soothe, or keep getting up at night (not that they won't ever get up once they can self soothe, but it will not be every sleep cycle).

Erin runs, when you say after a week of cio how do you mean. Should I let her cio at night in the rock and play then transition her to the crib since she can self soothe. Also how long is too long to cry.

I'd ditch the r&p all together cold turkey and go straight to the crib, it will be hard but worth it in the long run. You don't have to let her CIO, try that no cry sleep solution.... it won't happen over night but with patience, persistence and consistency she will get there and you don't have to let her cry herself to sleep.

Agreed. In addition, the NCSS also helps to break bad sleep habits and teach new ones, instead of teaching LOs to just give up on protesting to being left alone and go to sleep.

I would read Ferber. It helps you understand sleep. It is a great method, but you need to understand the theory behind it to see if it is something that you agree with. Sleep is a hot topic here, and most people on here are very anti cry it out. In real life, many people sleep train. Your child won't feel unloved and have psychological problems because you let them cry a little to learn a skill: self soothing. It was one of the best decisions I have made as a parent. We are all happier and have children who like to go to bed (and feel very loved).

I would ditch the rnp and sleep train at the same time....get it over with!

I've heard putting a heating pad in the crib before laying LO in works well. Obviously not real hot and you take it out before putting LO in. I know sometimes that cold sheet wakes up LO. Also when you put LO in the crib I've been told to lay your hand on their stomach for a few minutes. Kind of like a "I'm still here".

Have you tried adjusting what LO is sleeping in? My DS was sleeping well (4-5 hour stretches) and didn't seem cold but one night I tried his fleece swaddle instead of the regular cotton one and he is sleeping even better now. Could be a coincidence but that one little thing doubled his sleep time. He didn't seem freezing before by any means but apparently he was cold and likes to be a little warmer.

During our sleep training, we did very little to no crying at all but were consistent in our training and that helped. We started at about 2 1/2 months. We made sure that baby was almost asleep when we put him down so then he would just go to sleep and not cry. It was easier for bedtime than naps but he quickly became much better during naps. We followed the eat, play, sleep routine and that seemed to be what allowed me to know when he needed to sleep and establish a routine that really worked well for him. Just like your LO, DS also slept in his little rock and play until 5 months but at about 3 1/2 we took away the music and the vibrations. Then when we went cold turkey, he was perfectly fine with it.

My DS was exactly like your DD. We tried everything including the no-cry sleep solution method which did involve crying by the way

. Finally, I read Ferber at 6 months and it worked like a charm. My DD is 5 months and sleeps great but I would do it again in a heartbeat if I had to. Personally, I wouldn't just let your DD CIO without doing some research first. I hope it gets better for you!

You may want to try Baby Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit. DS was a swing sleeper before we got it and now he sleeps in his crib. We're still working on his wakeups (2-4 a night),
