I usually have one (maybe two) Coke a day...depending what I feel like. I did with my first too and she turned out just fine. It's said to not exceed 200mg of caffeine per day. As long as you're under that, everything will be fine.
Yeah, there's a ton of crap in Coke. And Gatorade. And flavored sparkling water. And a bunch of juices. And most processed foods. But is it going to noticeably affect your baby if you partake in moderation? That's up for us each to decide;)
I've been having about one coke a day during 1st tri because sometimes I just can't stomach water when my MS is at it's worst and I need sips of something.
I drink it when I have a craving. We don't keep soda in the house, and the carbonation gives me burps, so I tend to stay away. However, when I want one I drink one.
Before this pregnancy I almost never drank soda (maybe one every couple months at the most) but right now Coke is about the only thing that settles my stomach. I throw up Sierra Mist and even Ginger Ale, but a regular Coke works.
I buy the small cans that come in 8-packs and they are 7.5 oz each. I tend to drink one every day lately but trick myself into thinking it's not so bad because It's the smallest size I can get.
I love coke or ginger ale for settling my stomach. I have never heard anything about mercury. If I were to worry about anything, it would be the insane amounts of sugar. But, I think one a day is fine, really. Since booze is off the table we need SOMETHING fun to drink!
I didn't drink anything with caffeine in it the first 8-10 weeks but my OB said one can of coke or one caffeinated drink a day is fine. Coca Cola settles my stomach and since I have a nasty cough going on, it helps with that too.
I have one most days. I don't buy it by te pack or 2 liter bottles. I did yesterday though because of the weather and I didn't want get out. My doc asked how much I drank and I told her honestly that I have one and day and a cup of coffee. I stopped the coffee when I was getting shaky after it and she said as long as the coke didn't make me shaky all was fine.
I would be less concerned about the mercury and more about all the sugar. I don't drink regular soda for this reason, only gingerale from time to time. I'm also more suseptible to GD, which is another reason to stay away from sod and other sugary drinks. Who wants to drink their calories anyway?? Wouldn't you rather have a big juicy burger or something! Mmmmmm dammit now I'm hungry.

I LOVE Dr. Pepper. It is the only soda I drink. Even when I'm not pregnant, I would never have more than 1 cup/can a day. But I try to limit it now to every other day. But I seriously look forward to drinking them. Ha!
I was a diet coke junkie but gave it up once I found out. (I'm not being overly cautious, I just lost my taste for it.)
However, I have been going MAD for root beer, cherry soda, and pink lemonade. I'm rationing myself due to all the sugar, but if I let loose, I could easily drink a gallon a day of the stuff.
