Success after IF

Reflux update

So we've been trying everything for baby I's reflux. We are doing a probiotic, gas drops, started reflux meds last week and I am trying my best to go dairy free which is really f'ing hard. Her colicky crying has gone down quite a bit with these changes.

Yesterday I took her to the chiropractor and I think it really helped. She seemed much less mucousy overnight. I also am taking her to an infant massage class tomorrow, so we'll see if that helps.

I really hope we can work this out so we can all sleep better before I go back to work at the end of January.

Re: Reflux update

  • I'm glad things seem to be getting better. What are you struggling most with about being dairy free? I know several of us have had to do it, maybe we can help.

I can't do soy either, so that limits me from doing any of the fake cheeses. And there are just so many things have dairy in them like bread, salad dressings, pancake mix, pie crust, chocolate, etc. I don't drink milk, but I love cheese and I like yogurt. I just can't imagine skipping all the fabulous buttery Christmas cookies and fudge and this post is making me hungry. :(

  • I choose not to do soy either. So I don't do any fake cheeses either. To keep you from feeling deprived, I would really recommend checking out some paleo food blogs. Their recipes are all dairy and soy free. They are also sugar and grain free. But some of the stuff is really delicious. I really like paleomg, elana's pantry, south beach primal (she has some dairy stuff, some dairy free so read recipes before you commit) and many more. Yes, you have to actually cook your own food instead or convenient packaged foods. But it tastes better anyhow. :)
Also, enjoy life chocolate chips are dairy and soy free, Lara bars that don't have chocolate are certified dairy and soy free, and I use sweet potatoes and rice to really help bulk up my limited meals. GL, and you can do this! It probably won't last forever.

  • Hugs - reflux and colic are hard.  We went through that as well.  Ugh, when dairy stopped being an issue I think I ate cheese for 3 days straight (I mean, come on - I'm from Wisconsin!).

Best of luck to you.  It DOES get better!

I am dairy free as well as several other things there are tons of gluten free products that also don't have dairy also trader joes has a list just ask for it. Also there are tons if products with coconut and almond milk. The cacao chocolate is great. Also there is a yogurt at whole foods made from almonds it's fabulous. Coconut yogurt is also good. My friend said her life changed when her baby got famotidine and rice milk. My life changed when my daughter got goat milk. It's closest to human milk and has smaller molecules that are easy to digest

  • I figured out that I could bake w coconut oil and just cocoa powder and now I'm okay about the dairy free thing. I made some brownies that were incredible. But not eating cheese is really hard. I'm from Wisconsin too. :)

Yesterday we had our infant massage class and I really think it helped! Baby I slept really well last night.
