CD moms: cloth wipe solution?

What is your cloth wipe solution?

Believe it or not, I never used cloth wipes with DD1. We switched to cloth when she was about 7-8 months. By then we generally changed her in her rooms and would just throw wipes in the old diaper genie. And we used flush able wipes when out and about.

Well. With DD2, I rarely change her in her room. And at night, I like being able to just throw the wipe in the wet bag with her dipe. So I cut up two of DDs old receiving blankets. Now I just need a solution.

Re: CD moms: cloth wipe solution?

  • Alot of people use water. Some use a squirt of baby soap or coconut oil. I add a squirt of cjs carcass cleaner.

  • I just use water right now. I actually wet the wipes and put them in the warmer for at home and put them in a ziplock bag when we're out and about.

  • I washed out an old foaming hand soap bottle, put in a few tablespoons of baby soap, then filled it up with water. A few pumps per wipe works for us.

I use 2 cups water, 2 T olive oil, and 3 drops each of lavender and tea tree oil. I'm obsessed with it. It smells so good and makes LO's skin so soft. I shake it together in a bottle, then pour it in my wipes tub.

Thanks.  I like how simple this one is.  Some of the ones I looked up seemed so complicated.
  • Water, squirt of baby wash, and drop of tea tree oil

  • Boil a quart of water, throw in a camomile tea bag and let it steep. Once it's cool I add a dash of olive or almond oil, a squirt of Dr. Bronners baby soap, and a drop or two of tea tree oil.

  • I put water and a teaspoon of baby wash and baby oil in an old plastic soda bottle. The cap screws on so I can throw it in diaper bag and not worry about it leaking.

  • We have just been using water.  I tried a spray bottle and the peri bottle and neither of those worked the way I wanted them to, so I've been running to the sink EVERY diaper change and am getting tired of it.  What is a better way to do it?  I worry that if I keep them in a wipes container they will grow bacteria and be soaking wet when I pull the out. :/
I used to be a big deal.  Now I'm just old.
  • @--halo-- I use a rinsed out plastic soda bottle full of solution and then wet the dry wash clothes with it. The screw on cap keeps the solution portable and from spilling :) I have one by my bed for night changes and one in the diaper bag downstairs for other changes along with piles of wipes.

  • I put my wipes into an old disposable wipes container.  I put a little squirt of baby soap on the top of the wipes pile, and put hot tap water right on top of the soap, so it kind of foams up and wets the wipes.  Then I just squeeze each one out right before I use them.  Super easy, works great.  I actually think the cloth wipes keep my hands cleaner than the thin disposable ones.  GL!

    1/3 Dr. Bronners castile soap
    1/3 Olive oil

a few drops lavender and tea tree oil

  • Just plain, old, cold water. We have a spray bottle on the changing table and just spray the cloth wipe before using it.

  • Hi, searched for diy cloth wipes and found this thread, I am thinking cloth wipes for peepees only and regular wipes for poo.  Do you think plain water is a good solution for pee diapers? I think a soapy wipe for every pee might be overkill?  Just curious.
  • I use water in a spray bottle plus 1 tablespoon of baby shampoo.

Nope.  Cloth is great for poo too.  I honestly love them.  Don't know why I never did them with dd1.  Oh well.  live and learn.

My solution is just water with a splash of baby soap and coconut oil.  I will continue to use cloth while EBF.  If the poo becomes a problem once starting solids, I'll reconsider.  But I don't see it being a problem so long as I rinse them first.  We'll see.
