Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Daycare and toddler question.

My son will be starting a new home daycare in two weeks and I was concerned about her telling me what my son did through the day. Parker is 14 months old so he doesn't tell me what he ate, when he pooped and when he napped. My question is, do and of you mommies have an app on your phone that is linked to the daycare providers phone that will let me know what is happening through the day. I see some on iTunes but I want to know what the best one is. I just am crazy obsessed about my kid (as you all are too I'm sure). So please give me any and all reviews of the ones you use. Thanks.

Re: Daycare and toddler question.

  • my daycare stopped giving me daily sheets when he turned 1 year old.  If there is anything out of the ordinary, she lets me know at the end of the day.  I trust my daycare provider to take care of him, and I'm not too worried about the minute to minute updates.  As long as my phone doesn't ring with a problem (it never has), I'm happy.

  • We get daily sheets.  It has a basic overview of what they do each day (Pretty sure they just fill one out and make copies of it for each kid) and then they fill in the other info as the day goes on as far as food intake and diaper changes.  If they don't do this, I don't see why you can't provide something similar for them to fill out for you.  I think an app to keep you updated throughout the day may be a little much.  You do what them actually watching your child and not messing around on their phone, right?
  • We stopped getting daily sheets when he moved to the toddler room, so 15 months.
  • DS is in a home daycare and is 15 months and still gets a daily sheet.  I would ask if they could do one or write in a notebook or something. Several come up if you google it. You could print them out and provide them yourself.
  • LO is in a home daycare and we just get a verbal report at the end of the day: how well LO ate, how well LO napped, how many dirty diapers, and anything else out of the ordinary or fun.
    works for us.
We have one lady watching about 5 kids, I personally wouldn't want her spending her time on the cell phone updating each kids app everytime she changed a diaper-- I'd rather she give that time/attention directly to interacting with the kids.

in a big daycare center with multiple caregivers, the paper sheets make sense.  But in a small home setting, I don't think they are necessary.

  • I get an email at end of day but I usually talk to one of the helpers at pickup who takes care of DD to find out the details of her day. Sometimes the email doesn't come until after she's in bed. We're at a family daycare as well.

  • I get a daily sheet with nap, food, diaper changes, and activities.
DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
  • We still get a sheet, but it is less info now that she is in the toddler room.  I honestly do not read it.  I just ask the caretakers how her day was, and they tell me if anything was out of the norm.
  • Both were at in-home daycare from 10 weeks on. She is super busy and so amazing with the kids, that she was not great about the written sheets- just not her style. So I learned to trust her, get over my obsessiveness and relax. She updated me at pick up with how they ate, pooped, napped, etc and anything else relevant. She usually spent more time telling me cute stories about what they did- and I realized that was so much more important to me (obviously once the trust factor was developed  :)

I would ask for a sheet or create one and photocopy it with the info you would love.

Trying to get more than that will take away from them caring for your child.

Same. My LO goes to a daycare center. I really only take notice of how long he napped, since that will determine if he needs to go to bed earlier. Anything of note they tell me.

  • I think the app thing is a bit much and you would have a hard time getting someone to do it. We had a great home daycare DS used to go to and loved just the daily sheets. When we had to switch b/c of a job move we had such a hard time finding someone willing to even do that. Hopefully the home daycare would do a sheet for you.

  • I don't have one for my phone, but our provider uses dailyconnect.com which I believe you can access off your phone, but I just use my computer. I can see what's happening throughout the day which helps a lot. She also posts pictures up there from time to time which is nice too. It's free for me to use, but I think the provider had to pay to use it, so you may want to ask if there is one she uses.

  • They stopped using daily sheets when they put them on their set schedule at our daycare which is when they start the toddler room. They start toddler room when they start walking. Otherwise we get a monthly schedule of their lunches and always a phone call and incident report if there are any tumbles during the day. I really haven't missed them because with the set schedule I know what she does throughout the day.

  • My son is at a home daycare at 16 months and we still get the daily sheets.  She continues to give them to at least 2.  I've never heard about the apps but see if they will at least provide you with the daily sheets.
