Announcing on FB or not?

With ds I never posted anything official on Facebook until after he was born, but I did put in on our blog. We don't use our blog much anymore, and a lot of our friends have moved, so I'm considering posting something after our anatomy scan this Friday. What are you doing? Announcing on FB or not? What are your reasons?

Re: Announcing on FB or not?

  • We are 30+ hours away from our friends and family. Once we call our family and closest friends we will announce on Facebook.
  • Loading the player...
  • We don't live near any of our family or friends anymore.  Facebook is how we keep in touch with them, especially the ones we don't see much.  We told our immediate families and closest friends in person or by phone, then announced on Facebook for everyone else.
  • We told the news of the pregnancy at 10 weeks on FB, we have not said anything about the sex though...not that we are keeping it a secrete, just hasn't come up.

We haven't yet, but we will be announcing on FB. Probably next Monday after my anatomy scan. I'm just going to upload the same collage as is in my siggy.

  • I'm not gonna lie I definitely just posted the gender on FB from the OB's office. :)
  • We announced on Facebook at 12 weeks. It made things so much easier for me because I hate telling people in person (except for close family and friends). Two of the people I am close with who i told in person got upset for personal reasons and it was really awkward for both sides. I was glad to have it out there so people who wanted to congratulate us could do it in their own time. We won't be posting about the sex, the people who care about that are all close family and friends or will ask me in person.

  • As the holidays go, I have a feeling some pictures will get posted and my bump will be visible, so that's the closest to announcing we will get. If no pictures get posted then no one in fb world will know and I'm happy about that :)

  • I absolutely annonced on fb! I have extended family and friends that live all over. It's the easiest way to let everyone know all at once!
  • We announced the pregnancy at 13w and at 18w the genders. Other than that, not putting too much on Fb.

  • We announced on FB at 19 weeks after we told all of our close friends and family - and also after we knew the sex. We still have lots of friends who, although we may not see or talk to them often, we still know they care and it was an easy way to share with them.

  • I announced on FB at 15 weeks when I found out the sex of the baby.
  • Probably not, although my sister outed me to her friends (we have like half a dozen friends in common on FB) in a Thanksgiving post.  I was annoyed, but I've gotten over it.  My mother keeps asking when I'm going to make the big FB announcement.  She is all, "You should really let Ex-boyfriend 1 and Ex-boyfriend 2 know." (Both of whom I am "friends" with on FB.)  Uh, why exactly, mom?

My reasoning  is a) I've already told most people in person or over email and b) in the past I have announced big stuff ("I'm engaged!) on FB that blew up in my face later so now I'm leery of sharing anything major.
  • i have alot of overseas family and we only keep in touch through facebook. so we did announce after our A/S that we were expecting.
and once we gift our parents their Christmas reveal gifts, we will post that on facebook as well.

  • I announced on facebook at 13 weeks.  With the way family and friends are all over the country (and world) these days, it can be a pretty good way to go.
  • I grew up over seas and have friends all over the world and so we do a lot via Facebook because it is one of the only ways to connect with our friends all over.

  • I quit Facebook just over two years ago and it's awesome. Sometimes I even forget it exists. (And I used to be a very regular FB user.)

I don't do Instagram or Twitter, either. It makes my brain much happier.

We are definitely getting pressure from the ILs to do Facebook for the baby - we live in Oregon, they live in Minnesota, but there is just no way. That's what email and FaceTime is for, sillies!
  • I have not announced on FB but my dad will do his best to out me.
Mom to 10 year old DS and 7 year old DD. Twin girls coming soon!

  • We announced after the a/s so we could let everyone know it was a boy.  I have 3 much older boys and took their picture as they found out.  Oh then I only put up half the pictures so I teased my family and friends and made them wait till the next morning to find out. I had way to much fun doing it that way.  I did get called a few names though...  :)

  • We announced on FB after the A/S at 19 weeks.

  • I did not want to post an official announcement on Facebook. However my sister is obsessed with posting baby articles, links to baby things and posting pics of me and my "bump" from Thanksgiving on my page. So I'm sure most of everyone I'm friends with has figured it out. I'll post the birth announcement, but I'm just a bit superstitious about posting at this point.
  • We haven't decided if we are going to announce on Facebook yet. We have called all of our closest friends and family and they already know the sex but we asked them to keep comments about us expecting off Facebook. So far everyone has. We are taking our Christmas photos today that reveal we are expecting and the gender and the photos will be on this year's Christmas card. We are thinking about posting those pics on Facebook once the Christmas cards have already gone out and have been received by extended family and friends.
  • I didn't "announce" so much as I put a funny story about what DS said when we asked him what we should name his baby sister after our anatomy scan (his answer was "Boy"). That was the only Facebook mention I've made of being pregnant or that is's a girl.
