adding formula to BM Help!

For the past three weeks I have been on medicine and we have been using up frozen milk mixed with liquid canned formula. Now I am able to pump again but want to ease back into an all BM diet.

How does one mix powdered formula with breastmilk? Add water with powder or no?

Note: this might be a silly question..but I am unsure if you can just add some powder to the milk or do you have to add additional water.

    I've never mixed the two. If I have BM and formula to feed him (I supplement) I will feed him all of the BM first and if he wants more, will then make a new bottle of formula (my formula adds 1 scoop per 2oz of water). I've never heard of mixing them.

    I would mix the powder with the water seperately like the can says. Then add the formula to the bm to get as many oz as you need.

    Mix up the powdered formula with water like you normally would, and then mix your desired proportions of breastmilk to the mixed up formula. HTH!

    mix the powder and water as you normally would - then add however much breast milk that you want.  do NOT substitute the bm for the water!!!!!!  use the normal, required amount of water.

    Thanks I figured you had to add the water. I just wanted to check to be sure.. I did not want to give her more water and take away from the nutrients if I wasn't suppose to

    I mixt 2 oz of water with 1 scoop of formula and then add that to 2 oz of plain BM. My dd only eats 4 oz ..but that is how i mix it

    Most LLC recommend doing this as well to ensure your baby gets all of your bm if he doesnt finish a bottle.
