We decided to take the train. We don't have a car, and Liliana is NOT a huge fan of being in her carseat, for that very reason obviously. Since this will be her first longish trip (4.5 hours by train, 6 hours if we were driving), we decided that taking the train would be a better bet because we can take her out of her car seat. She will be able to nurse whenever she wants, play with toys, etc. On the way back, my mom will be driving us, and I anticipate hell, but I guess we will just have to make a lot of stops. Is anyone else taking the train or has taken the train? Any tips?
Re: Anyone traveling by train?
If you are going to MI via amtrak...that trip always takes longer than it says. I used to do it all the time. Be prepared with lots of things to keep DC busy, and extra bottles etc.. It took me 10 hours once to go from chicago to flint.
My advice...be patient.
DS and I took the train to my parents' for Thanksgiving for the same reasons. Do you have a baby backpack/carrier? He looked out the window for a bit, and when he was tired, I was able to put him in the backpack on my tummy and he slept on me while I sat and read. It ended up taking an extra hour, but he was really excited to look around and look out the window. We're doing it again this week, but DH will be along, so I'm expecting it to be even easier with two of us handling him!
