DH currently has a patient who fell 100 feet down a ravine. Not knowing that her mom saw the fall and that Mercy flight and a repelling team were on their way she crawled out and managed to get to a road.

While crawling down the side of the road 9 different vehicles drove right by her. (This happened out in the boondocks, so it could be hours between cars.) She decided to crawl into the middle of the road and a car finally stopped. She called 911 to tell them where she was and they requested that the vehicle stay with her and continuously honk their horn so they could find them.

THE PEOPLE IN THE CAR REFUSED. They were on their way someplace and had "a lot going on." They asked her to get off of their phone and out of their car and drove off, leaving her wet, cold (we're in Central NY) and seriously injured.

I didn't even think to ask DH how long she had to sit there before help finally arrived.

WOW. Just WOW. I hope the patient makes a good recovery and that the people who just left her feel guilty. I cannot imagine leaving someone in that kind of shape.

I wish I could say I'm shocked but I'm not. People are so disgustingly selfish it's scary. I've watched a bunch of that show I Survived and there are so many people who are bloody and dying who ask for help and get doors slammed in their face or people drive by and ignore them. I can't imagine not helping someone who truly needed it.

Are you serious? What the hell!? Are people that selfish that they can't even hang around? It's not like honking your car horn is actually that hard. Or even stopping your car to help in the first place for that matter.

I don't know which is worse, the people who drove past without stopping or the people who stopped but then decided they were too busy to help. I am actually leaning towards the second being worse because they knew the situation and still decided they couldn't be bothered.

What a bunch of jerks. Unless I was on my way to an emergency, there would be nothing too important that I couldn't stay with the person. Hope all is well with her.

That is terrible. I will always be thankful for the woman who, after my car rolled multiple times in a storm on a freeway, helped me.

My car was upside down. I was hanging there, terrified. I thought it might catch fire so I punched out my window and crawled out. I was covered in glass and blood and in a lot of pain. I was 19 at the time and on my way to work.

A kind woman pulled over and actually picked me up and carried me like a baby. She wanted me to go in the backseat of her car. I protested. I didn't want her nice car to be covered in my blood. She said "people are more important than things". She waited with me until the ambulance arrived. She even called my work to let them know what happened.

Just thought I would share another story because there are good people in this world too. :-)

Bless her heart, that made me tear up. So glad you are okay. That sounds terrifying.

I live adjacent to a state recreation area and we regularly participate in human AND animal rescues within the park (dude, if you aren't outdoorsy, don't fake it. It can be fatal.) I can't imagine turning my back on someone in the condition she must have been in. How awful. I hope those people look back and realize that it could have been them, or a friend or family member of theirs who needed help and were turned away.

Wow, I hope the karma bus runs them over then puts it in reverse and runs them over again.
I can't imagine telling someone who is CRAWLING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN PAIN that I can't help because I "have a lot going on".

@LJUTCmommy that's so great she was so helpful!

The woman's mother is still pissed and has contacted news agencies. Luckily it happened right before Thanksgiving and she had family arriving, who actually arrived right after/as it happened. She didn't know they were there which is why she had crawled out of the ravine and through the woods, but it turned out her mom had just gotten there and saw it.

The woman (DH's patient) has a five year old daughter with disabilities that involve a sever speech impediment. She had taught her daughter if anything ever happened to run to the neighbors for help. The daughter did, but the neighbors weren't home. Who knows what the five year old would have done if her grandmother hadn't shown up.

It's bad, but there are shitty people out there who would pretend this all happened and then attack whomever stopped to help them.
I will be honest and say I probably wouldn't stop, I'd call 911, but I'm not sure I'd stop. The people who did stop suck for leaving with their excuse.
