I'm asking because I tried to get Mira off the paci but it made her nurse more at night. I'm thinking I need to night wean then tackle the paci issue. I also feel weird sometimes when people find out she's still nursing at night.
Mine just takes a paci at naptime and when she goes to sleep for the night. Other than that I rarely give it to her and she doesn't seem to want it during the day anyways. I stopped giving her milk before going to sleep since she has it with her meals.
Thanks for all the responses. I gave Mira her paci back tonight after a week of awful sleep/screaming without it. Before I tried taking the paci she was nursing 2x a night for 10 mins but without the paci she was nursing like 5x a night for 30 mins. I just don't know when she'll be ready to stop nursing at night but I know I'm feeling ready.
Avery nurses A LOT at night. I so wish she would night wean. The night nursing is actually making me think of weaning all together because she isn't giving up the night nursing.
LO still has a paci at night and for naps. I night weaned around 11 months but I do nurse LO still before bed. I am scared to stop that since she has gotten so used to our bedtime routine. I plan to wean completely around 18 months.
Dagny sucks her fingers so she does that at night and pretty much any other time she wants to we stopped nursing at 13 months and as soon as I quit she started sleeping through the night but also started sucking her fingers more.
We night-weaned with Jay Gordon's method (https://drjaygordon.com/attachment/sleeppattern.html) at 14m - it was a tough week, but we've been great since. Now, he only nurses to fall asleep and when he wakes up anytime after 5am.
I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one still nursing at night and/or before bed. It's not the "social norm" so I don't get positive responses from most people. My mom and friend were pressuring me about the paci but Mira slept way better with it last night so I'm just not gonna talk to them about it. I showed the poll responses to DH and he was happy to see the majority of LOs still use a paci. He was all for giving it back to her after that.
I think our LOs are still young enough that it's NBD if they still use a paci while sleeping. As long as it's not interfering with their speech development I wouldn't worry!
I have a thumb sucker, never used a paci. Stopped bf at a year and she is not a fan of milk in a sippy so we do a bottle of wcm before bed and lots of other dairy during the day. No plans to stop that bottle anytime soon.
@JFresh- I meant MOTN. I'm fine with nursing her before bed and during the day when I'm home but I'd really like for her and I to sleep more than 3 or 4 hrs straight.
I voted yes to both, but she has been cutting back on both lately. I still put the paci in her crib at night and every so often she will wake up and it saves me from having to get up to nurse her back to sleep.
Re: Does your LO still take a paci? Does your LO nurse/take a bottle at night?
Good luck!
